The author of the novels hint towards a climate disaster being the reason for the decimation of Namerica and the creation of panem. Katniss and peeta are both 16, gale is 18, prim is 12. The # of times your name is in the draw depends on their age and how much extra "food" they take from the capital. Gale and katniss met in the woods lookomg for food. Both of their fathers died in the mine explosion. Gale taught katnis snare traps, she taught him how to hunt and forage. When ppl say "Outlying district' that means, not from the career districts 1, 2, or 4. These districts are extremely privileged and live lower, yet akin to the capital in class. The games can last weeks, this one was 14 days I believe. The scores the game makers give are out of 12 for the 12 districts. How does she know the berries are poison? Katniss father taught her everything she lnows about the wilderness. Katniss and prim are both named after plants. Their father would tell thrm that as long as they could find themselves in the woods (katniss is a root veg) then theyd never starve. Why'd peeta toss the bread? Right after kats dad died they had no food. It had been a couple days atp and katniss had sat outside the bakery to basically starve and die. Thats when peeta saw her and burnt a loaf for her and her family. Not lore but also boooing with you when gale/liam is on my screen. Peeta has my heart, hes such a softie
