Hodor had a seizure because Brand Warged past Hodur (Willys) and present Hodur at the same time. So, he stopped talking except for one word. "Hodur" Hold the door, made into all one word. So, Hodur became his new name because that was all he said anymore. And no one from the past new why. But Bran new. It was because of him and his screw up. That's why he looked guilty.

And Hodor was having a seizure - the double warging caused it, and seizures can cause brain damage, so he was stuck repeating those last words - hold the door - until they morphed into Hodor :(

the biggest mistake I think Bran made was going into a "vision" by himself, not knowing how to get himself out of it and therefor getting touched by the knight king. so after that the Three Eyed Raven (TER) said they must go and that it's time for Bran to become him. I feel like the TER started to (idk how else to describe it but) "download"? all the information he needs to become the new TER, so that's why he couldn't just wake up and be present during their escape.

Hodors Death gets me every time :( Especially because the music playing when he's holding the door is a variation of the Stark theme & "goodbye brother" (when Jon died). Hodor was truly a man with honour ;(

Hodor dying was so sad! But finding out how Wylis became Hodor was the BIG SAD :( Basically Bran fucked up, first by letting the night king touch him, then somehow warging into present day Hodor AND past Wylis. So that’s the moment he stopped talking and only saying “hodor” he pretty much became traumatized by the vision of his death and his ultimate fate to just be Bran’s human carriage until he dies to save him.
