Wake Up Call? Hmm. It would be easier because it's a pretty short comic (and the panels are wide. Trouble is I'd have to find two more voice actors (and I'd be pretty particular on how they sound haha). Markus is Irish, btw!

I’ve had a number of people ask me to make my massive 70+ page Puzzle comic into a video, and I don’t think they understand the sheer amount of time, effort and cost it would take. This was just one voice actor in a 4 minute video with 8 panel-less comic pages and it took me months to put together. I could see myself doing more videos like this with future image sets, but it would require a lot of effort to adapt a full-fledged comic into a video.

I gave her some guidelines and references, but she seemed to really get to the core of the character on her own. Kadath, I’d love to express my appreciation for this surprise of a post. Clearly a lot of love and effort went into this production and it’s amazing. There’s nothing but admiration for you and Vixen, you’re direction and her performance truly enraptured the character and art beautifully. When hearing Nightshade say “Patty cakes” for the first time truly a grand smile adorned my face from being a long time fan. This was a great surprise to see and a joy to watch and listen to, your dedication to your art is simply inspiring. Truly with all my heart, thank you so very much for this wonderful video.

Kadath you did an excellent job, in the chosen images, the timing, and in the choice of VA to bring it to life. Also in the panning through each image, made it seem both longer and more of an animation. Kudos to ya! (And the Voice Vixxen!)

On one hand I get that it's like 'oh I would love to see my fav character get this treatment', but on the other, there's almost no acknowledgement of this accomplishment (which was a long and difficult process!), it's just 'okay now do this for me'. It feels like I'm a vending machine or something. This is not new behaviour, towards me or any other artists, but I guess I'm more frank about my thoughts on it... but it's something that many artist pals have told me has happened to them in private. Also, I've had artists privately comment to me about the stuff people say to me, or the stuff they read online, and they're just like 'what in the hell?' - so they notice this stuff, and who says it. I don't think I could do a full comic like this, at least not at this point in time, because it would be a huge undertaking. It took me 3 months to draw the art, seek out and hire the voice actress, and then edit the video & audio outtakes, find sound effects, music, etc. Doing that for entire comics with panels and such would require a lot of money and time, to the point where I'd probably have to assemble a team to do it. Part of me would love to do my webcomic as a voice-acted video comic series. That'd be great. But I dunno if it's financially feasible. But yeah, overall, I knew exactly the kind of frustrating responses I would get to this, but it still sucks. I really do appreciate the people who are excited at this and it makes me smile to see the enthusiasm!

I had hoped that that particular frustration would ease off with time, but from what I'm seeing today it's only gotten worse. Nightshade and Patrick have a powerful dynamic that's worth exploring story-wise, and there was even a recent Ask where you clearly stated that Nightshade is your favorite character to draw. The work you put into this clearly shows, from the music choice to the time and effort it had to have taken to find a proper voice actress as well as instruct her on how to capture all aspects of Nightshade's personality. I was hoping that the next one you were considering might be Dirty Talk, since you mentioned wanting to look into a more story-focused one and thereby have more of Vixxen doing Nightshade's voice. That actress, doing the back-and-forth flirting and the fantasy-weaving, just... MMPH! But as you said, projects like this take a lot of time/finances/effort. And I'm sorry that this mixed response is what you're getting instead of a proper round of cheers and applause. You made something awesome here Kad, and Vixxen landed her part flawlessly. This deserves to be fully in the spotlight rather than shunted aside for a "Now do ____" clamoring.

Oh my god, 100%. It's just deflating having responses not even acknowledge the project (especially something as novel for my work as this!) and immediately it turns into a 'now Puzzle' plea. It makes me very resentful of the character sometimes. It happens a lot, but it's still really frustrating even if I expect it.

I'm definitely starting to see how this became a sore point for you. Hearing "Okay cool, but now do what I want instead" here and there is one thing, but damned if most of your posts don't have like 1-3 or more of those apiece, even from non-patrons. I'd be dead tired of it too in your position.

Okay for real… I have spent months getting this put together, and it’s only an 8 image, 4 minute video. I understand people’s excitement about future possibilities, but I don’t have the time, funds or desire to go and make every single Puzzle comic I’ve done get made into a fully-voice acted production. I also feel rather discouraged that I am showing a Nightshade video and I’m getting a number of responses essentially saying ‘Now do Puzzle’. Can I please just have one Nightshade project that doesn’t involve it turning into a ‘How about Puzzle’ thing? Just once? Let the characters have their own moments in the spotlight.

Voice Vixxen really nailed it! I love how she did a kind of peppy uptick on her voice when she mention's Pat's name. Really subtle little change in tone when she's talking about her boy :P

I looked through a lot of voice actresses and went for Voice Vixxen because she had the 'huskiest' voice of the bunch. Sadly the selection of VAs I've come across tend to be very much in the high pitched UwU anime department, lol, so there's not a huge pool of casting choices to pull from. It'd say it took roughly a month to find the right choice. I gave her guidelines on how to voice Night, using Annie Lennox as a 'husky Scottish accent' to follow as a guideline. Lennox was in fact a partial an inspiration for Night from her inception!

How long'd it take you to find the right voice for her? I always imagined her voice being a tone or two deeper in my head but I'll be damned if this wasn't a premium fit for her. That accent is damn well intoxicating.
