Want some sci-fi? Stargate SG1 was a great long running show with an amazing cast and a prequel movie. (And 2 spinoffs and continuation movies 🙃)

I don't know if it's Darcie's style, kind of a militaristic, sci-fi action series to prevent the dystopian downfall of humanity but... yeah. Loooove that those first seasons set the tone for the rest of the show, but I can't think of many episodes of SPN past the first season or two that are scarier than, say, Angel season 1 (I'm thinking of our intro to Dennis in particular, Rm w/a Vu). I'll admit, the first season is hella scary. This article (https://www.cbr.com/scariest-episodes-supernatural-ranked/) lists the top 10 scariest episodes of the WHOLE SERIES, and the first 5 are in season 1, and 7 of the ten are in the first two seasons, so.. yeah. And honestly, the other 3 episodes that aren't in the first two seasons are like...not "scary" scary, they're just..creepy ideas. But not like, ghosts and zombies kinda scary. Plus, a lot of people rank the pilot episode as one of the top 10 scariest episodes of the whole series (327 episodes) and Darcie has already seen it and survived ☺️ Plus, I wanna throw in the popular fan opinion that a reactor (or first-time) viewer only commit to the first 5 seasons, as they are the masterpiece of the show. All the seasons that come after season 5, IMO, are similar to fanfiction or Extended Universe. I love the show, I love those extra seasons, but I know it can be daunting for a first-time viewer to think about getting into a 15-season show. And honestly, I wouldn't be AT ALL disappointed to get a reaction to only the first 5 seasons and then free up some time for our girl Darcie to react to something new (and maybe even watch the rest of the show in her free time if she wanted). But like, ya know what I mean?

Honestly, either one could also just be a Pilot reaction vid. If you aren't hooked by the first episode of either show, I'd say they aren't really shows that GROW on you, per se. It's kind of an immediate draw or a meh throughout, depending on how well you relate to any of the characters. But yeah, I would absolutely DIE to watch Shameless with Darcie and all my cornpops 🫶🍿🫶

That said, I'm seeing a lot of recs in the comments for Twin Peaks, and I'd be all over that. The only show in history that manages to be some of the best TV ever made, and some of the worst TV ever made, sometimes in the same episode. Hell, sometimes in consecutive scenes.

Not just ghosts, sure...but that's because they need room for every other horror story or genre. It's less scary later on, when the focus deepens on the brothers and those around them. But that's if you can get past the horrors. (If you can, it's TOTALLY worth it.)

As in, nudity, sex, etc. It's very sex-positive and a beautiful story, but can be a smidge uncomfortable to watch in the presence of others...like SP. If you're not into that, it may be something you prefer to watch only when alone. (Personally, I tend to avoid shows with gratuitous sex scenes in general. But my bestie showed me Sense8 and it was, indeed, beautiful and touching and compelling...once I forced myself to ignore those scenes.)

2024-12-09 05:54:21 +0000 UTCOnce again, I think you'd ADORE Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Once Upon A Time. Also, New Girl, if you haven't seen it. The Good Place is a great one, too! Except New Girl, which is fairly straightforward, they all appear to be one thing but have so much more under the surface. And none of them have scary ghosts or creepy children (that I recall). CxG and NG are both fairly comedic, with CxG having a bit more emotional depth. CxG is so much more than it appears on the surface and I truly think it could be used in a therapeutic setting. Once is about stories...not just fairy tales...and it's just...it's fascinating. It's insane. And there is a distinctly higher chance you'll see a dragon or two in OUAT than if you watched anything else. Multiple possible dragons, swords, all the fun stuff! Someone suggested Supernatural, which is one of my favorite shows...but I don't think you'd be able to sleep if you watched that one. Like, ever. It's got all the scary stuff. BUT if you have recently decided you're okay with that...it's a stellar choice, too!

Orphan Black which is just such a taut twisty thriller with arguably the best lead performance in recent memory. I think it's underrepresented on YouTube. 2024-12-07 01:29:51 +0000 UTCI don't suppose it would win any polls, but since I'm here when you ask, I have a put forth what is actually two shows that are more of a package than any two shows in TV history: Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and its first spin-off, Xena: Warrior Princess. The two absolute go together, and are far better as a unit than Xena (or Herc, for that matter) by itself. Of course, they're essentially the same length as Buffy and Angel, so it's rather an investment of time. Anyway, I had to throw that in. 🙂

A very appropriate spiritual successor to VM, imo. caveat, it is Marvel *HOWEVER,* it functions as a standalone, especially from the movies. And then as always, Battlestar Galactica for some awesome acting in space. It converted this lover of non-outer space based sci fi to enjoy that genre. I do think Hill House might be too ghostly for you, but Midnight Mass is another great 7 episode Flannagan show you'd probably enjoy.

It's a shame because it's one of the best *genre withheld as spoiler* shows of all-time. The show does such an amazing job I've creating a fully realized world. It also has one of the best recurring casts as well which makes the show feel so fleshed out. I can't praise it enough. I'm hoping to get some support going in the Discord
