I'm a little late to the party as I dragged my feet watching this. My Dad was a huge VM fan and I started watching it because of him. Sharing TV shows we loved with each other was something that bonded us and gave us an excuse to hang out. When the kickstarter happened we both were pretty excited. We went together on opening night and it was just a fun night hanging out with my Dad. It's a cherished memory of him. He passed away recently and I was worried seeing the movie again would be super emotional. It was, but it was also fun to see the movie again after so long. This and Serenity are two movies that shouldn't exist and yet they do because fans wanted it bad enough. Marshmallows are part of a rare set of fandoms that found a way to resurrect their beloved show and give it new life. This movie is an absolutely triumph.

2024-12-10 03:15:09 +0000 UTCOMG DARCIE!!!! That was so fun for me to watch. Let me tell you the story of Veronica Mars as it aired, as a Canadian (Montrealer). If you wanted to watch Veronica Mars in Canada when it aired, you couldn't get it on regular cable because we didn't have UPN in Canada. CTV aired some episodes of season one the summer between season one and two (no idea why, maybe just buying random American shows to air? who knows) and I happen to catch them (summer of 2005). Obsessed immediately. The DVD box set released that summer and I remember going to HMV to buy it and I watched it all in one day. Then it's time to convince my dad that because I needed to be able to watch UPN we had to upgrade our cable package so we could get a PVR from videotron and pay extra for this one additional American channel I needed. And let me tell you my dad was not easily convinced. I finally get him to upgrade the cable and I watch religiously for the next two years. I meet my best friend because he’s the only person at school who also watches the show and he introduces me to Buffy (mother). I cry endlessly in 2007 when the show is canceled. Kristen becomes a huge star. But she never shies away from VM and the VM fans. Both Kristen and Rob continue to talk about wanting to continue the show in interviews. But I think fans had mostly given up. And then March 13, 2013 happens. At this point I'm living in London, ON in grad school. This kickstarter video drops and the VM fandom goes insane. I donated the minimum amount as a broke college student and waited diligently for updates. I still have all my kickstarter emails saved. Flash forward to March 11, 2014. Three days before the movie comes out. I'm living in Ottawa doing a co-op placement for my masters. I get a message from my cousin in LA that because of her work, she's going to a screening of the movie with a Q&A with the cast and going to the afterparty and if I can get my ass to LA by Sunday she'll take me as her date. Long story short I go to the event, I get to go to the afterparty where I meet Kristen, Jason, Enrico, Percy, Ryan, and Francis, as well as Rob Thomas and Marti Noxon (writer and producer of Buffy). Every single one of them was amazing and kind and gracious. One of the greatest days of my life, hands down. This show got me through some incredibly trying years of my life and being able to share those feelings with the people who made this show, a show that means so much to me, was incredible. As a kickstarter backer, you were given a link to watch the movie the second it hit 12am on March 14, 2014. I filmed my initial reaction post finishing the movie alone in my Ottawa apartment at 3am so I could send it to my best friend in Montreal. I had initially planned to go home to Montreal that weekend so I could see the movie with all of my VM loving friend group but LA changed those plans. I had to be up at 7am to make my flight for LA. Watching this tonight brought so many amazing memories rushing back for me. VM holds a special place in my heart (one of my family dogs is named Logan LOL). I’m sorry for this incredibly long story but watching the movie with you tonight has me seriously in my feels. What a show. And what a reaction video :)
