ummm hello?? what just happened....?? 😭😭

Season 5, Ep 22

Yes! So much thought goes into every episode on so many levels- even song lyrics at the Bronze and classroom lessons tie into an individual episode’s theme. Not to mention costume colors, lighting effects, camera angles, etc. On every rewatch I catch something new.

And either the same dream, or a later dream. Faith says “oh yeah, lil sis coming… lots to do before she gets here” or something along that line… PLUS the little tid-bits in the restless dreams! I adore foreshadowing and the way they do the prophetic dreams in this show so much!

Back in season 3, ep 22 (Graduation Day, pt2) Faith foreshadowed Dawn’s arrival and Buffy’s death in the dream sequence: “Miles to go, Little Miss Muffet counting down from 7-3-0”. Dawn is Little Miss Muffet (the crazy guy on the street in 5x2 Real Me also says to Dawn “curds and whey”). 730 counts the days (2 years) to the season 5 finale. It is all foretold in the Buffyverse.

Seeing the look on your face when you realized what was going to happen. 😢

I definitely also had to wear my "Happy Tuesday" sweatshirt for this, it was a moment 😂

No matter the amount of rewatches, this episode leaves me a WRECK. I loved this reaction as always! I was so excited to see your reaction to the dragon too 😂 I remember you really wanting a woman villain and a dragon from the get-go, and I was like man she is going to thrive in season five lol. As a few have mentioned, this score "Sacrifice" is so beautiful but the beginning of it is such a gut punch when you know what's coming. Buffy's face is so calm and she turns and looks at the sunrise (or the "dawn") and you just realize. Ugh that moment, this whole season! ❤️ I think it's safe to say we're all having a blast rewatching with you!

Erin

We've been waiting a hundred episodes for you to finally get your dragon! The Buffyverse does grant our wishes sometimes, it just usually comes with an emotional breakdown or six. Love that for us!

Matt

You always have such fun reactions and this one did not disappoint!

Devon Martin

Yep. Death is our gift.... but this opens the door for the sixth season! I am SO excited to see you venture into that one!! We told you to watch the series, and we allowed you to see the deaths of Jenny, Kendra, Angel, Joyce & now, Buffy! We are EVIL!

Scott Andrews

Even the start when Buffy says "Why don't we start with, Hi I'm Buffy. It gets me. When Buffy is in the alley with the kid. He says, "But you're just a girl." Buffy, "That's what I keep saying." After everything, she still longs to have a normal life. When Buffy turns to the rising sun. Her look is not one of fear or sadness, but of anticipation. Spike said to Buffy in FFL, "Part of you is desperate to know, what it's like, where does it lead you?" "Death is your gift" A gift to Dawn, but also in a way a gift for herself.

Omg I remember watching this ep with my mouth wide open the whole end scene. I just wanna say thank you Darcie, you make my day better every time I watch one of your reactions! Season 6 is my fave, lotsa great episodes, can't wait for you to react to them!

When Buffy was realizing things about her blood and her gift I think they should've added the clip of Spike saying 'every Slayer has a death wish'. As much as I know she did this for Dawn, in this episode we could see how much slaying has taken a toll on her and her missing her mother. I believe she wanted to go and be done.

Corey

Dawn's a little more remarkable here, imo, as she's prepared to make the same sacrifice without it ever having been her duty

SpikesEcho

"The hardest thing in this world is to live in it" is my all-time favorite line from the Buffyverse, despite how depressing it is haha. It's just something slightly profound that can be applied to so many situations, so many lives--even outside of the show. This episode solidifies Buffy as my favorite character in all of media history. (Shocking that it isn't Tara--I know) Not just the sacrifice, but everything leading up to it. She's always (rightfully) rejected her destiny, always been one to stand her ground on wanting to live a normal life. But here she is, sacrificing her life and accepting her duty as a slayer in order to save the life of her sister.
