Hey Pooga, if you are part of Darcie's Discord you could ask about this in the spoiler section. I'd be willing to bet someone will understand what you are referring to.

I love that. It's similar to how I got hooked. Was at a friends house running through playing (I was 7) and I seen a scene from the episode The Pack (which I ironically hate that episode now) and thought it was amazing. So I ran over to my house and had my mom record the rest of the episode. After that, we were both hooked and it's been in my life for the last 25 years. All because my friend's mom had it on. 💕

I vaguely recall seeing somewhere that when Whedon saw the script for this episode, he said something like “it’s amazing, and I can’t afford to film everything you have here”. At which point the writer said something like “I’ll be okay as we do the horses vs the Winebago scene”

Fun personal factoid: this was the first episode of Buffy I ever remember seeing. I was just flipping channels, and I was MESMERIZED by the RV fighting and the lead being a girl and everything. But I had no idea what I was watching. It wasn't until a year later that I was at a new baby sitter's house (I was like 11yo) and Buffy was on before school one morning that I finally found out what show I'd seen that day. There was a commercial for Season Four on DVD and I told my mom I wanted it. For Christmas she surprised me: Season Five was out, and BestBuy had a deal that you got the Buffy movie free when you bought Season Five. I didn't even know there was a movie. I watched all of Season Five in a week, subscribed to Buffy magazine, and within a year had all the other seasons on DVD, had friends online around the world through the Buffy fandom, and became a part of an offline community of Midwest Buffy fans that meets once a year to support Make-A-Wish. And if I'd never seen Spiral by accident, I don't know if any of that would have happened.

Don't know why I never noticed it before, but on this rewatch with Darcie I realized something happens in this episode that kind of foreshadows a really big moment in another Whedon creation. The irritating thing is I kind of hope Darcie watches the other Whedon shows, so I don't want to say anything more specific. It's just that there are a lot of parallels between a scene here and another scene elsewhere that became a signature moment. Now I feel the need to figure out if anyone else has pointed out this connection before...

First, I love your hair! 🔥❤️ She truly is the moment. I also love the fight scene on top of the RV, I think it's one of my favorites in the series. I remember when I first watched it, 8-year-old me was motivated to also try a back handspring on top of our car (this was quickly vetoed by my sister and I never got to try it 🤷‍♀️😂). But Buffy's outfit, the sword fight, all the badassery on the top of a moving vehicle is just wonderful

I disagree. It would make motivations of Scoobies too muddled imo. I just didn't need to see all the dilemma comes with that info for episodes and episodes tbh. I get it from the stakes point of view but I think it being a more personal journey about Dawn's life kept things more focused.

Phoenix Dawn

First of all. Hair? Thumbs up! Second, a question. Does anyone feel like the ultimate stakes of this season and the "Key" thing were explained a bit late in the game? I feel like it might have been better if the Scoobies knew a few episodes earlier that the stakes were more than just Dawn's life, but the existence of all universes too. I've always felt that the debate between strategies -- protect The Key or destroy The Key -- was short changed. And the Knights of Byzantium's motivations never really got the thorough thinking-through I think they deserved, because there wasn't time. I mean, why didn't the Knights explain things to Buffy that specifically much earlier on? Then again, it was pretty late in Season 3 before everyone actually understood that The Mayor was far more than just a sinister small town mayor dabbling in magic.

The writers really had fun with this one. There’s a moment around 18:00 where Anya says “who’s up for some tasty fried meat products?” A few seconds later, Tara opens the window and burns Spike’s hand. If I’d written that, I’d have been giggling like a fool as I typed it (only took me ~20 years to notice).

Noah

Whoo hoo! What a great reaction, Darcie. So excited for the rest of the season!

Raven Dark

Everyone talking about your hair, and I'm gonna jump on the bandwagon. Love the light & dark thing you've got going on! But now on to the episode. So excited to get to the final few episodes of this season with you.
