Sales of the first-generation Ford Taurus, which appeared starting in late 1985 as a 1986 model, started off strong and stayed strong for years. With modern, space-efficient front-wheel-drive, user-friendly driver controls, and the flush glass and slick shape formerly seen only on the likes of high-end Audis, the old Ford LTD suddenly looked every bit the 1960s design it really was. Ford made a station wagon version, of course.
