I think the reason you felt like Adam wasn't that big of a threat is because he was NOT supposed to be the Big Bad. Maggie Walsh was but the actress decided to leave and wanted out of her contract, so they had to rewrite the entire third part of the season. Not sure if you caught it, but the spell they did combined Willow, Xander, Buffy, and Giles together, which is why they were so powerful. SuperScoobie! I still LOVE this season. Primeval is one of my favorite episodes.
