He laid out everything wrong with Vince McMahon's WWE, every reason why I already wasn't watching it anymore when he said it. And now, considering the recent allegations, AND how much better their programming is without McMahon? Punk was a goddamn prophet. Don't get me wrong. Steiner Math is more fun, and I do love it. But better than the Pipebomb? No way.

2024-03-27 15:50:48 +0000 UTCPipebomb's impact was crazy high at the time, but was fleeting, and has been tarnished by many things over the years (didn't do any of it after leaving, FOX show, then actually returning to WWE) to mean almost nothing now. Steiner Maths was small at the time, but grown to meme status and continues to have an impact now. Ask people who know nothing about wrestling about details from both, and which are they more likely to recognize? Maths Oli... Maths...

Maybe "everyone who voluntarily opts to pay money to support a free wrestling news YouTube channel" has heard of the pipebomb, but many casual fans don't know what it is or have only heard of it because others mention it but never watched it.

I show everyone who hasn't seen it Steiner Math. I can't quote more than a few lines of the Pipebomb. I can recite Steiner Math verbatim. It may not be for the right reasons, but it is definitely the most memorable, iconic, and therefore best promo ever.

Although, Scott Steiner has also been in multiple promotions and I cannot remember a single one of his promos, except for Steiner Maths. This man single-handedly turned the worst promo into one of the most memorable, for all the wrong reasons I’ll give you that but memorable nonetheless, things I’ve ever seen.

That promo is absolutely mad, but the math works out, and one of the best parts of it is the fact that Petey Williams is doing his damnedest to not just bust out laughing the entire promo.

In that light, the fact that Dusty's heiney remained just a little big until the day he died and his son is still referencing it (the promo, not the big heiney) in his theme song makes that promo from the 80s age better than the pipebomb.

And I think a lot of the issues with Punk, how he's handled himself, etc. have tarnished what the Pipebomb was. I watched it before he came back to wrestling and, wow. Amazing. But since he came back? Not as much. Cody even torpedoed the promo by (truthfully) letting CM Punk know that he's more Punk than Punk. Steiner math, though? It's honestly gotten better. It's not bad in the way where people roll their eyes, even non-wrestling fans, but bad in a way that brings a lot of joy. And the separation from the context and feud and all that have honestly made it better. It's better by itself than it was in context. But, in context, especially in the grander context up until now, the Pipebomb isn't as hard-hitting or relevant.
