Bridgetown (Vampire project)

I wanted to talk a bit about one of my other comic projects, which I've called 'Bridgetown' (name might change in the future, but I like it!) 

This project is 100% on the backburner- Sparks is my priority, and I have a scifi project I'd like to do after Sparks, so Bridgetown in my mind's schedule (lol) will be after that. I want to be as good as I can be when I make it, because I want to do it really well. 

If you've been looking through my sketchbook uploads, you would have already seen these characters quite a lot (especially the earlier uploads before I started working on Sparks) and might have been wondering about them, so I hope this will be interesting!

So, here's our main cast! From left to right we have Lynx, Noah, and Jasper. Lynx and Noah are in their final year of high school at the beginning of the story (so 18/19) and Jasper is 22. Bridgetown is set in modern-day(ish) rural southwestern Australia (where I grew up!). Bridgetown is the name of an actual town in the southwest, but the comic is set in a fictional town that's more similar to the town I grew up in, I just really like the name 'Bridgetown' for a town lol. 

The comic will definitely be darker/more mature in tone than my other work (heads up!). Noah is the main protagonist, and the story revolves around his unfortunate circumstances that lead him to be turned into a vampire by Jasper- Jasper also grew up in Bridgetown, left halfway through high school in mysterious circumstances, and has recently returned to the town. 

Lynx is a newcomer to the town- he moves there just before the start of grade 12 with his single parent mum. Aaaaand he's a witch in training! His mum is a witch (slash daytime accountant). They're a couple of arty, surfy hippies who brew kombucha and do yoga. They're really a lot of fun as characters and I love them, hahaha. 

Noah was turned into a vampire just before the start of grade 12, and when Lynx starts school he realises right away there's something off/different with him- and strikes up a friendship out of curiosity. 

The story starts off there, and continues on as Noah feels trapped in his circumstances- he's an outsider in his town/school/family, and he gets caught up in Jasper's own plans to get revenge on the vampire that turned him. Lynx and Noah become close friends, and Lynx begins working on his own plan to find a way to break the vampire curse on Noah, which involves forbidden necromancy he definitely can't learn from his mum. 

That's the main gist of the story! I don't want to go too much more in depth because even though it might be years before I can work on it, I still don't want to give away the good stuff, hahaha. I am excited about my vampire 'lore' for this one though! I like gross, monstrous vampires, so these vamps can transform into scary bat monsters- like a werewolf transformation. 

They also bleed thick, sludgey, almost black blood since they're undead :^) gross!! 

So yeah, there we go!! I want to get really good at environments, colour, lighting etc before I make this comic because I really want to be able to get across the beauty of the Australian southwest and the particular feeling of being there... lots of beaches, paddocks, and forest. I'm nervous about this comic in particular because it does have darker themes and is more personal, but hopefully some people will like it anyway! One day!
