“Fierce like a wildfire,

Fragile like a wildflower,

Still feeling unworthy,

Still finding my power.”

~j

Before I fell in love with film photography, I would express myself through writing, especially poetry. This is one of my favorite poems that I’ve ever written and I feel like it perfectly represents my healing journey through self expression and self portrait work.

This set is from the archives. I’ve posted the first image on my IG before, but the other two have never been shared before. I shot this set when I was really starting to focus my photography more on self portrait work and really embracing vulnerability. My partner at the time was very controlling and did not support my creativity or my need for self expression. I was constantly worried about how my photography would impact the relationship, even taking breaks from shooting altogether. I actually shot this set knowing that I’d probably never be able to share them, but I still took them for myself. It makes me really happy to be able to not only share them now, but with my community who has been so encouraging and supportive of my art.

These are great though! It shows the consistency in your voice from the beginning. The only thing that's changed is how you communicate that voice.

I’m so glad!! I actually halve a bunch of half finished poems written at the moment. So, look out for more! So thankful I’ve found that place too 😊 And I continue to value the inspiration that you bring.

Thank you for that!! I super appreciate you 😊 I was thinking that while I was posting this. There’s always been something that I loved about these photos but my work has evolved so much since taking these that I almost didn’t want to post them. But I think the journey is just as important to share. It just makes me really appreciate the growth and the support along the way.

I appreciate that observation! I love experimenting with light and shadows.

Love the colors and textures in this! Fantastic to see how you’ve evolved too!

Ahhhh! Amazing! Really happy to see this :D Love the poem and the backstory surrounding it. Super happy you've found a place you feel supported to explore your passion, especially after that experience with a controlling partner. Keep doing yah, and always find a place for creativity ☺️

The contrast between soft shadows on top and hard ones on bottom is very interesting
