What I Miss?? 10/5/19 (VIDEO SCRIPT)

Martin Scorcese recently revealed in an interview he had with Empire that he thinks Marvel movies and the superhero genre of movies in general are - and I quote - “not cinema,” and a lot of people feel a certain way about it.

More specifically, the people who spend years of their lives to MAKE those non-cinema-ass movies just like him

People like James Gunn and Joss Whedon, though I don't really give a damn what Joss Whedon thinks, to be fair...

As a matter of fact, both directors went on Twitter to explain just how disappointed they were to hear his opinions about superhero movies overall, especially because both of them stated that they really admire his work and look up to him as a director

But for context, here’s the official quote in its entirety:

“I don’t see them. I tried, you know? But that’s not cinema. Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks. It isn’t the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being”

*sighs* Yeah, he really just said that...

So I’m not gonna lie and say that I give a damn about what he had to say on the matter, because I don’t

And that’s mostly due to 2 things

1 is that despite trying, he doesn’t watch films in the superhero genre and says it lacks human beings exchanging emotional and psychological connections with each other. Which if he actually DID try, he’d know that those stories DO exist in the superhero genre

And 2 being that this was said from a man...who was once attached to produce Todd Phillips’s Joker movie

Yeah, I’ve pretty much reached my “Old White Baby Boomer Yells At Cloud” quota for the year...and that number was already at zero to begin with. So...

So Disney is about to start banning Netflix ads from running on all of their television networks with the exception of ESPN, and this is honestly the pettiest shit I’ve seen all year

Yes, I understand that with the release of Disney Plus, Netflix is officially your biggest competition. In STREAMING

And considering how much of the entertainment industry you own, and what all Netflix does, it honestly says a lot about the reason why this move is being made, and I can’t say I’m surprised.

As far as Netflix is concerned, I’m absolutely sure they’ll be fine. Like, they’re probably not that broken up about it. They probably were EXPECTING IT considering Disney Plus is right around the corner

But they’re probably like me and looking at Disney like:

Really? We can’t even buy ad space on ABC?

You know we still got the rights to stream Shondaland shit; you really not gonna push streaming How To Get Away With Murder because you wanna be a petty-ass bitch? That’s why nobody like you, fo’real- fo’real

This past week in black excellence, Jordan Peele signed a five year deal with Universal Pictures.

During that timeframe, Universal Pictures gets to call first dibs on distributing any movie that he and his production company Monkeypaw wants to make

With part of the arrangement being that Universal is going to develop his next two films that he’ll be writing and directing.

Honestly, seeing Jordan Peele thriving is like...one of the most therapeutic-ass things to me, and all I’m getting out of it are good movies.

But honestly, it says a lot -- and does wonders to my own creativity -- that a weird black geek is able to make a career of telling the stories that he always wanted to tell, and have them be so beloved by multiple people!

It gives me the strength I need to push my own shit, and I’m legitimately happy for him.
