My Thoughts on the Sandman TV Show Announcement | READUS 101

Readers, I have good news and bad news
The good news is that after years of being in development hell, Neil Gaiman’s Sandman is finally getting a live-action adaptation in the form of a Netflix tv show
The bad news is that along with Neil Gaiman, David Goyer is executive producing the show
(visual signs of frustration)
So, I already made a video explaining why I hate David Goyer. And while I’m not opposed to making the same video more than once just for the sake of content, whenever it comes to this dude I just...I...I just don’t have the patience...
But yes; Gaiman’s Sandman has been trying to find its way to either the big screen or the small screen for quite some time
The latest attempt as a movie that I remember involved Joseph Gordon Levitt and it got close-ish? Something like that
But yeah, I’m not surprised that with so many failed attempts to make Gaiman’s Sandman into at least a trilogy of films, the next best thing was to go the route of television
Especially since it’s currently in its “Golden Age”
I’m also not surprised that out of all the networks and streaming services to snatch it up, it was Netflix
Especially since HBO passed on it because doing it justice would mean OVER extending its budget for their big-world tv shows that they already have in production ala Westworld and their Game of Thrones spinoffs
And the fact that they want to compete with Amazon’s own Neil Gaiman’s show Good Omens and its upcoming Lord of the Rings series
Not to mention Gaiman’s American Gods over on Starz
They didn’t reveal how much money was involved with the deal yet, but Allan Heinberg -- ol’ dude who did the screenplay for Wonder Woman -- is both writing and showrunning the series. So that helps me put my mind at ease a bit.
Obviously I want more Neil Gaiman persuasion than David Goyer persuasion, especially since the Gaiman persuasion means more than...ONE successful TV show under your belt.
Yes, I’m still giving Goyer shit over the cancellation of Constantine. Because fuck David Goyer.
So with that being said, despite Goyer’s involvement, I’m definitely rooting for this to be good.
Because Gaiman’s involve, a competent writer and showrunner is involved
And considering the amount of competition that’s currently out, I’m absolutely sure Netflix is gonna spare no expense in making sure its up to snuff.
I just... I just need people to stop giving this motherfucker work
