Check in on your very irritated friends.
That’s me; I’m “Very Irritated” friends.
_______
Good Day, Readers. Do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior The Walt Disney Corporation?
What’s that? You don’t? Well, what a coincidence! Neither do I! But we’re adults, and AS adults, you don’t always get what you want.
The Walt DISNEY Corporation on the other hand apparently gets...EVERYTHING that it wants.
First, Disney buys Fox entertainment, immediately owning almost half of Hollywood in the process.
It was through said deal with Fox that Disney absorbed their 30% stock share of the streaming service Hulu, increasing Disney’s ownership to over 60%, declaring them and Comcast as the major owners of the platform after Hulu bought back the share owned by AT&T
And trust me; if hearing any and all of that sentence said out loud makes you want to projectile vomit at any time, I understand, and I’m sorry, because who-boy, do I got news for you!

*Smiles for camera while letting out a muffled scream*
Yes, Readers. You heard that right.
Not only has Comcast made a deal with the devil - I mean Disney - to relinquish its stock holdings to them in 2024...for $5.8 BILLION DOLLARS.
/But as of Tuesday May 14th 2019, Disney will have full operational control over Hulu./ Disney Hulu https://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory/disney-strikes-deal-comcast-takes-full-control-hulu-63026425
Now you may be wondering to yourself, outside of the obvious answer being “because they’re greedy bitches”, why even do this if they’re still doing Disney+?
What’s the point of making your own streaming service if you’re just gonna buy the streaming service you’re invested in?
Because let’s just be real here. Despite a significant amount of fans unable to see beyond the veil that is “Fantastic Four and X-Men are back at Marvel Studios” to see why Disney owning so much shit is dangerous as fuck
One of the main motives for Disney buying Fox, even Marvel and Lucasfilm is because it wants to compete against Netflix.
And to them, there are two ways to do it. Control what content they have access to -- ala limiting the amount of content they can buy the rights to stream by OWNING said content in order to have the ability to say no -- and make your own service in order to exclusively house it.
For the longest, Disney’s only been able to do that with Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Marvel Studios, and their own movies. And have rightfully pulled away from Netflix once they realized that there’s money to be made with this whole streaming service schtick; that it’s not just a fad.
And by buying Fox and now owning franchises like Alien, Predator, Die Hard, Planet of the Apes -- properties that in no way shape or form Disney would be able to put their own name on because of the NATURE of the content
Not only have they increased the amount of content they can potentially lease out to streaming services, but they now have the ability to cut off Netflix’s access from those properties and give them a home at a service they have control over.
The problem with that idea, is Disney+ itself.
/Because with Disney+’s press release that they had in April explaining everything that would be available on the platform -- every Disney movie, every Pixar movie, every Star Wars movie, every movie from Marvel Studios, and countless hours of television programming both old and new -- they’ve already established Disney+ as a family friendly streaming platform, which a lot of the content they gained from their acquisition of Fox wouldn’t fit./ Disney+ https://variety.com/2019/digital/news/disney-plus-streaming-launch-date-pricing-1203187007/
So what do you do with properties like Alien, Predator, Die Hard, and Planet of the Apes since, because it doesn’t follow the status quo you established for it, you can’t put on Disney+ but also don’t want to license it out to Netflix? You put em on Hulu. The OTHER streaming service that you own!
And that’s just one reason why Disney bought Hulu and made this deal with Comcast; they’re also in it for access to the service’s technology
Which they’ll more than likely use to help develop their own and enhance Disney+
So while I still hate how quickly Disney’s snowball is gaining in size as it continues to roll down Looney Tune mountain, them becoming the owners of Hulu through this deal and wanting immediate control over it makes sense
It’s definitely one of those situations where I look at the thing, analyze the thing, think about the thing on a business level while still taking my feelings into consideration and going:
Ooooh, I wanna hate you, but that was smart as fuck...
That’s pretty much my relationship with Disney right now.
But I digress, Readers; your homework assignment for the day
Write in the comment section below how YOU felt when you found out that Disney now has full operational control over Hulu
Personal bias and inner turmoil aside, I’d love to know your thoughts!
