Danny Patrol
- So you know what I said in my last recap episode about Silas may have something to do with Cliff’s upgrades after we found out he was sabatoged by a rat named Admiral Whiskers, and that he might be incapacitated for at least half the episode, if not the entire episode?
- /Well, clearly I’m a liar, because Cyborg was not only able to repair the hole in Cliff’s arm that Admiral Whiskers got inside, but also completely rewire him and bring him up to snuff./
- But I was only HALF wrong with my whole “Cliff’s not gonna have that much to do” theory, which I’ll elaborate on later, so hey! Technically I still won!
- /Anyway, once Cliff is all better, he answers a ringing phone to find out that after Jane left the mansion, Jane’s alter Karen took over, and has invited Rita over the house of this dude she’s always trying to win over when she takes control for some advice. And Cliff decides to go with her because he he hopes this will give him a chance to apologize for the way he blew up at her last episode/
- Meanwhile, Larry and Vic find a cake box at the front door sent by a shop on Danny Street in Springfield Ohio, with a note attached asking about Niles
- After finding out that the street isn’t on the grid, which is rightfully concerning
- /They arrive at Danny Street looking like a DLC for a Silent Hill game, only to find out that the street is alive and actually named Danny, along with other things/
- (Non-Conforming Street Scene)
- This is the greatest thing I’ve seen today
- So it turns out that Danny is on the run from an organization called the Bureau of Normalcy, that hunts down things and people it deems to be “not natural.”
- /One of the Danny-zens actually used to be a member of the BoN - the Drag Queen Maura Lee Corrupt. He entered the street on a reconnaissance mission, but decided to stay and tip Danny off after finding them welcoming of who he truly was. And can I just say that I REALLY appreciate how they handled this subject in this episode?/
- (“In their own skin” scene)
- This is also when we find out that this same organization was also behind Larry’s Mento-induced nightmare in the Doom Patrol Patrol episode, when he reveals that he was forced into the BoN after his cosmic accident
- And from the looks of it, Larry might actually be regressing as far as his development is concerned.
- /Because despite finding out that the reason why the street looks abandoned is because its Danny-zens are too scared to come out and live their best lives and that doing so is actually Danny’s source of life, Larry’s past experiences with the BoN and the fact that he doesn’t want himself on their radar anymore is keeping him from wanting to protect Danny, even with Cyborg’s assistance./
- But we’ll get to that in a minute. Let’s talk about how Rita and Cliff are doing with “Karen.” Jesus Christ, her name is Karen
- So it turns out that Karen’s superpower is pretty similar to Dr. Harrison’s. But while Dr. Harrison uses it for more manipulative suggestion and getting into people’s heads, Karen is more along the lines of Jervis Tech where she just commands motherfuckers to do shit
- But she does it in the form of love and admiration, which is how she keeps Doug around her finger even after she’s forced back to the underground when Jane or another alter takes over. The moment she has control, she goes right back into his life and forces him into hers again
- /But this time Hammerhead is on to her, and while Karen asked Rita to come to help make her family dinner date with Doug perfect, Hammerhead is trying to do whatever’s necessary for her to get Karen out of the driver’s seat and is enlisting Rita to help her in the most Hammerhead way possible./
- And where’s Cliff? Sitting on the porch, challenging a black kid to a robot dance-off because Karen didn’t want him scaring the parents. Told you I was half right.
- But while it’s obvious that she needs to stop this considering how far Karen is going to ensure her happiness without taking the free wills of Doug or his family into consideration
- The best part about this B-plot, is that I finally get to see all that development with Rita pay off in this one single scene:
- (Play scene in question) /She didn’t melt, bitch. SHE DIDN’T MELT, BITCH/
- Your fave would NEVER.
- I mean, she ain’t my fave-fave, but at this point with the way everything’s paying off, she almost there, real talk
- Speaking of progression, let’s take another look at Larry on Danny Street
- /Who has a bit of an outer body experience when asked to perform karaoke at the cabaret, and experiences what life could be life if he lets go of all his fears and starts living his truth. He’s conflicted when he makes one last ditch to try and run, then sees Maura Lee Corrupt’s plan to lure the BoN off of Danny’s trail before deciding to put his fear to the side and fight back/
- (“Sends his regards” scene)
- With happiness restored to Danny Street they thank Vic by offering him a comic containing clues to possibly beating Mr. Nobody before teleporting him and Larry back to Doom Manor
- /And after learning the hard way that Karen can’t control Cliff because he’s not completely flesh and blood once he tries to break off the wedding she forced Doug and her family in because he cares about Jane’s say in the matter, Hammerhead is able to take over long enough to try and kill Doug so that this wouldn’t happen again -- like a normal person, obviously -- only for them both to be pulled back to Jane’s underground, leaving her body in a catatonic state/
- Which means we’re finally gonna get that episode I’m oh so looking forward to
Then again, it may not be that bad.
From the trailer, it looks like we’re gonna be introduced to the Council of Janes or some shit
And there’s also the possibility for more Main Jane character development, so that’s potentially neat
All I know, is that if there isn’t a Breaking Benjamin reference in the next episode, I’m ringing the Shame Bell
(Sings first part of Diary of Jane chorus)
