I think it's because reality shows create a dilemma: the more toxic and chaotic a person is, the more entertaining they are. However, a toxic work environment can be detrimental to people's mental health. So, do you prefer a cast of mentally stable individuals in a positive environment, resulting in a boring show? Or do you favor a cast of mentally unstable, toxic, and chaotic individuals, making the show more engaging? For example, would thorough background checks make the show less entertaining? It's tough.
