Tom gave shiv the answer just like rava did for Kendall last season but she didn't listen like tom said she should have played both sides but her weakness is her arrogance. If I'm not mistaken didn't that used to be Kendall's office the fact that Logan has completely taken it over shows how the dynamic from the first episode has totally flipped.

Most of what she does makes perfect sense to me because of who she is as a person and what she wants. The business world is like a boy's club and so much of this show is about how this family blends business with personal. Connor isn't in the company and therefore he's forgotten about as a sibling too. Shiv being the girl in the family makes her face a lot of misogyny in her own family too. All of the kids thing that by being CEO they can win their dad's affection. The company truly is Logan's heart at the end of the day.

Kendall’s business savvy, Shiv is thorough, and Roman’s good with people. Each lack what the other has, and I think that’s insight into how they were raised. Logan put them in positions which drew out certain extreme qualities of them, but never gave them a rounded perspective on how to really act in the real world, let alone a top company.

Logan was right when he told her working in politics was her version of running away and she’s marrying Tom in part because she feels like she’s so far above him in status that Tom can’t hurt her. That’s why she feels so comfortable shitting on Tom all dinner, until Tom snaps back and Shiv is clearly kind of rocked by it. And that’s where it gets tricky because Shiv does care about Tom to a degree. She’s the one trying to act sweet and apologize to him after dinner. So those competing impulses bump up against each other. Same with the ceo position. she wants to be in the strongest most secure role and she also wants her dad’s favor. Being the prop chief of staff to Mr pibb Bernie sanders doesn’t have the same appeal.

Shiv is smart, but they said how she wanted to do her own thing, so she built her own path and went off getting into politics type stuff, she has no experience running the company. She wants her Dad's approval but she has never even been in the race like Roman and Kendall who have worked (I will say "worked" for Roman, cause like Kendall has previously said, Roman prolly won't actually be qualified to flip burgers, let alone be in an executive role at a Fortune 500 company, without nepotism) in the company now for years, who have danced to Logan's every whim, trying to appease him while being treated like shit the entire time. Kendall's issue seems to be that he has no confidence in himself even though he is competent at the job (thus the constant fuck ups every time he had a chance to take over and replace Logan). He seems to have a knack for self-sabotage and bad luck.

To add some context to the Greg-Tom situation and also the political tension that was present in S1 with Shiv endorsing and working for Gil. Him and the female client she was strategist for before him in the very first couple of episodes were Democrats and that’s why ATN kept targeting them so relentlessly. (Based on the fact that ATN lady said “you don’t share our news values” to Tom, it’s always been my assumption that Shiv, Tom, and Greg are all non-conservatives even if they have the same annoying judgmental rich people tendencies as everyone else — excluding Greg…for now at least.)
