some people just have their preferences. i dont like dub because they sound cringe and are trying too hard. for me its almost as if its not in them to be able to back out the dramatics without sounding completely offputting. im also trying to learn japanese so picking up on nuances is always easier to do when youre hearing the language be spoken especially in slice of life style anime where the japanase spoken isnt as exaggerated as regular shonen.

It's been ages since I read this early stuff in the Manga. But when it's not a cliffhanger , you just turn the page and the situation resolves without momo getting assaulted it's... uncomfortable but whatever goes by pretty quick and everythings fine. But making it the season finale cliffhanger really steps it up to like "REALLY? This the note you choose to go out on? Why?!"

Sub is not always better, Black Lagoon, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Cowboy Bebop and Ghost Stories are so mucb better in dub, then you have animes like Violet Evergarden, A Silent Voice, Frieren, Dungeon Meshi which have English dubs that are on par with the original. Yeah e10 my problem is that we only have 12 episodes. I'm trying to critique the narrative in the anime itself not the story as seen from the manga, the anime failed to deliver on nice worldbuilding that failed to create a compelling setting within 12 episodes, maybe I could've made that more clear. I have no problem with acro-silky, but as of now the serponians feel less like antagonists setting up for a major plot and more like team rocket. They appear twice, and neither times it's even hinted at where they come from nor how many there are, or if this is an isolated event in japan. I would just prefer more insight on why they just come out of nowhere and what theyre doing earlier on to pull us into the story more. I also appreciate the insight on how stress can influence their personality to be more like that, I didn't know that. On the SA, I say that its fanservice because of the japan manga market. Considering most series use the sexualization of females early on because that's what grows manga in japan, I don't really see any other reason the author would include something like this early on and never again while not taking the topic seriously.

@Yeeeeaaaah I think you bring up some interesting points, but I think a lot of the complaints on world building are countered by the fact that we only have 12 episodes. They’re still setting up the characters and plot (we only just got introduced to Jiji). The “villain of the week” style works well for setting up the characters, but I would also argue these villains and conflicts are less constrained and more important than you say. The conflict with the Serponians isn’t solved and they’ve been set up as overarching antagonists. The Kappa has been set up as a future ally. Turbo Granny is the cause for the overarching plot and Acro-Silky set up Aira’s powers and her place in the cast. The only unimportant villains have been the Sumo one (a plot device to display the characters powers and cause Momo to release Turbo Granny), and Nessie. You may say it feels like a slow start, but that’s probably due to watching weekly. Ending the season in the middle of Jiji’s introduction arc definitely doesn’t help either. Keep in mind that a show like Naruto or One Piece took dozens of episodes to establish what Dandadan has so far (major villains, 2 overarching plotlines, powers, main cast) Now once the main cast has been completely set up, if the show still doesn’t go deeper into the world and overarching plot then I’ll take it back, but I think we’re at a good pace. Small bit on Jiji’s character: unless you’re speaking from a manga perspective, we don’t have any indication that his personality is or isn’t a front yet. However I would like to say that severe stress can give rise to an exuberant personality like that, without it being fake or a front. And on his character, some will find him funny, some annoying, it’s all preference. Now on the SA, I really don’t see it as fanservice. The scenes do not feel framed in a provocative way at all. I think you can make a point that it’s unnecessary or that the topic is conveyed too lightly, but in this case it’s used more as an insensitive plot element. The only criticism I really agree on here is the romance, Aira and Jiji’s feelings seem like they’re just to introduce friction in Okkarun and Momo’s relationship development. However I do appreciate their approach to actually addressing romance vs other shonen which just sprinkle inklings of a female character liking the main character all the way till the end.

And there's been a bit of a trend of younger mangaka tackling it by putting characters in situations where that happens and the aggressor gets their comeuppance. Also I forgot to put this in the last episode, but they actually made a whole ton of layers in the voice casting of Tarou and Hana. Tarou is voiced by Sugita Tomokazu, who is most well-known as Gintoki (Gintama) and for the trio, he's young Joseph Joestar. The bit about him running around and being loud are also coincidental callbacks (I say coincidental because the manga is obviously not voiced) but became a perfect casting because of the personalities of Gintoki and Joseph. They're always causing trouble and running around doing stupid shit and also because of the fact that Sugibro himself is a massive troll and jokester in real Life. As for Hana, she's the voice of og Lum from Urusei Yatsura, as well as voicing her mom in the remake. If you guys remember from the last episode, Hana said something about having an earlier manufacturing date than Tarou, i.e. saying she's much older than him for the relationship to work. This is a double entendre in the sense that not only is she an older anatomy model, Fumi Hirano (the voice actress) is literally from an older generation of voice actors as well as literally being almost 20 years older than Sugibro lmao

Earlier in the season when we got an idea of how many chapters they were doing per episode, we really thought they were gonna adapt some of the bonus volume chapters . Cover some fun side stories with Turbo Granny, Seiko, Momo and Okarun, then end it while the kids were on the train to Jiji's house (Chapter 32). Really did not expect them to just do the next chapter and HALF of Chapter 34 and leave it like that for half a year 💀

Its Twitter language for taking a character like momo and putting some filters and giving them black characteristics like braids. I think some of them are a bit low effort however there are a few that are really good and are sometimes even able to make the character look better.

it's not the blackwashing that's the problem, japanese artists have been attacked for similar situations. One instance was literally an artist drawing a character a single shade too light than the original character and twitter went off on them, to the point of them deleting the post and apologizing. Then they see people drawing black versions of characters and promoting it, to them it's a double standard and they're upset. Either have all fanart be okay, or none of it. Personally I think both sides just need to go outside and touch grass, there are way more pressing matters to get upset about.

Pretty much someone posted a blackwash momo and okarun on Twitter that the eng VA of okarun made his pfp which caused even more drama since the japanese side of Twitter is actively calling for bro to lose his job which made the va change their pfp before running away to bluesky. Now Japanese Twitter is getting more upset and to have this on top of the whole tourist problem thats happening lately its just not a good look
