The $3B in loans is already secured against stock held by the family's holding company. It can't be used as collateral for other loans unless they commit fraud and don't disclose the other debt, which would get them sued into oblivion and probably facing criminal charges if things went wrong.

The children are important shareholders (they own a large amount of stock in their father's company) and the news of his condition will probably cause panic selling of stock because they predict people will not be confident in Kendall as the acting CEO. This will cause the price per share to drop, and as Gerri said, the lender that Logan borrowed from can demand the full 3 billion that the company owes if that price drops below $130 a share. This is very bad for the company and the family because they don't actually have 3 billion just sitting around to spend on debts. Billionaires usually have to borrow or liquidate assets to spend that kind of capital all at once. Also, as the stock drops, their wealth drops, since a large amount (or even most) of their wealth is in the stock of the company that is at risk.
