Magic is separated into origins, for lack of a better word — arcane, divine, and natural (which isn’t technically a category, but whatever, most people use it). And arcane magic specifically is separated into schools based on the spell — illusion, necromancy, etc. Keyleth can heal because she’s a druid, and she’s already healed before in the show. Unrelated to her element! Pike, Keyleth, and very occasionally Scanlan were healers (also the twins had potential as Vex multiclassed into ranger and Vax into paladin, but I don’t remember if they used healing magic much), but for the show, they wanted to make power sets distinct by character.

Red, black, and white dragons won’t often be found attempting this feat, as they are either too dumb, too prideful, or their evil goddess’ favorite color (red) to dare defy her. But green and blue dragons have a different pride. -Green dragons are ambitious to no end, seeking even to outgrow their own mother goddess. -Blue dragons hold pride for their accomplishments rather than their talents. They aren’t satisfied being second place. They’re mommas second born and won’t stand for the indignity of that title over what they know they can truly become. So mother can fall to the side for all they care. Dracolitches are, with all intent and purpose, litches. Undead masters with immortality. However, while litches need to sacrifice souls to a phylactery and rebuild their body if their original dies, dracolitches simply wait… until another dead dragon is close enough to their phylactery… and take its body instead. They are soul hopping parasites and are one of the most metal things you can throw at a party 🤘

The spell that Raishan used was Meteor Swarm which is a level 9 spell (The highest level of spells you can use) and her only level 9 spell slot available. Raishan arguably is a much scarier foe than Thordak was because of her intelligence and her ability to use such powerful magic. The only difference here from the live game was that she never went into Thordaks body and instead fought the team in her original body. And she laid a trap which I think Vax rolled high enough perception to spot her spell above them which hit about everyone. Mind you, Meteor Swarm does 20d6 fire and 20d6 bludgeoning damage. Which in 5th edition DnD terms...PRETTY FUCKED UP. It is arguably the 2nd most powerful 9th level spell in the game (Can literally wipe an entire party if the rolls were very high and they failed their saves). I think a couple party members went immediately into unconscious and several were badly damaged Except Vax and Percy (Percy was alive in the live show) as Vax as a high level rogue can avoid full damage against spells or anything requiring a Dex save and Percy had Cabals Ruin which can absorb magic and negate any damage done as long as it has enough charges. Easily one of the scariest encounters the party had faced in this arc which could have been a TPK (Total Party Kill).

2024-10-30 02:15:13 +0000 UTCAnother major change from the actual campaign this episode, originally the entire party actually tracked Ripley down and battled her on Glintshore where she'd set an explosive trap for them. That's where she actually killed Percy in game, after which the rest of Vox Machina got to describe how they finished her off together. Moreover, although they tracked Raishan to her laboiratory, they were able to stop her before she completed what she was planning with Thordak's body. I imagine they changed this simply for a more dramatic viewing experience.
