It's rare but things like amnesia are real to various different degrees. You can literally forget all personal details about yourself but still have general knowledge like how to drive or do a certain job. The chip seems to be very specifically altering their brain and possibly acting as memory storage for the new memories formed as an Innie. This might be why Reintegration is so difficult other than the obvious of having two sets of memories, your natural brain is trying to make sense of digital memories that were not formed in the usual way.

Any amount of giving up control would be unthinkable and offensive to her. I work in a field where I have contact with people who are relatively well off, not even super rich, and any amount of telling them no or taking away what they think they are entitled to makes them feel personally offended. It's just masked by the fact that she's the audience surrogate and of course you'd want out if you felt trapped. And if you really think about it, she wasn't trying to kill herself she was trying to kill the other her. Yes, it's the same person and other her not coming back would be the same thing as ending yourself but in her mind what she wanted to do as hurt the person that was hurting her, she pretty much says it. Also obligatory "Am I live stock?" could have been a subconscious fear of "Eat the rich".

Later, it’s revealed that his wife died in a car crashed where they collided with a tree. And in their next session, the tree in the middle of the room is gone. I think this is supposed to be definitive proof that even though he doesn’t remember what happened he carries the trauma with him every time he goes into work. Also proof that his boss (I forgot her name) could tell there was a subtle connection between the two.

That would make sense as to one reason why she was at Mark sister house and able to teach her how to take care of her newborn. One of the things on Cobel's platform at her home was a hospital band that said Charlotte. Also I believe there was some truth to the things she was saying like on losing her husband.

2024-09-19 03:19:44 +0000 UTCSo I may be way out of pocket on this but I think Selvig/Cobel was actually trying to help them while working her way up the ladder for her own hidden agenda. -She broke protocol numerous times, and was questioned about it by Milchek and the Security guy but always had a way to convince or dismiss them. -Didn't report NUMEROUS instances of danger and rebellion, especially Helly's suicide attempt. -Planted Marks "Dead" wife's candle in their wellness meeting, and set it up so they would meet several times and was visibly displeased when it didn't trigger a response from them. -I think her last lines to Helly before she went on stage weren't a threat but rather a warning to stop them from unknowingly sabotaging themselves. -Her freak out over getting fired seemed wayyy to emotional to be just anger. That was like a personally devastating loss. Could be that she was trying to find someone in the company and just lost her only way to finding them.

Perhaps some form of brain death, where her body is still capable of supporting life, and Lumon took her corpse and planted a chip in it with a blank personality. They sent her back to "Testing" which makes me think that its still not working as intended as evidenced by her robotic demeanor. Also Irving's painting of the "Testing Room" hallway means he's seen it before which makes me think he may be the subject of a different "Test". One of the other command words they had besides Overtime was "Clean Slate" which to me implies completely wiping their memories and personality which could be what they did to Irving previously.

Lumon obviously is not breaking into peoples homes and kidnapping them and forcing them to be severed, people are choosing to be severed. Gemma HAD to have chosen to be a permanent innie. So the question becomes, why did Gemma choose to be a permanent innie? She knew that meant shed be dead to the world, including her husband. So either A. Their marriage was emotionally over or B. If i remember correctly Mark told the Black lady that they had tried to have kids and couldnt, what if Gemme was so depressed from not being able to have kids that she chose to be a permanent innie? What if she had a miscarriage? Or several miscarriages? Or simply was barren? What if she felt she was holding Mark back cuz she couldnt have kids and she also couldnt live with the children she lost or simply couldn't have? From a writing standpoint, imagine how devastating that would be for Mark to find out she chose to leave him, chose to let him think she was dead?

Mark being this happy and protective person while his outie was sad and reclusive (for obvious reasons), Helly being a full anarchist from day one to her opposite corporate self, Irving being this rule follower disciple (until the end of the season) to being this maverick kind of dude (basing this full of his the clothes, music, his background established in the last couple eps) slowly becoming the same guy, and Dylan who was more competitive and agro to the dad who was rather compliant. Love how the cast can just switch it up so well. Can’t wait for season 2 and how much hell is going to rain down on the innies.
