Keep in mind mark got the department chief position by force so he’s putting on a leadership persona in the only way he knows how, which yes comes across as annoying. But I think mark is just trying to do what he can. He’s told Helly so many times that nothing will work, but as we have already seen, Helly is gonna learn her own way LOL We saw in a few flashbacks that mark was pretty cool with Petey. Mark has been severed for a loooooong time probably so him trying to think about things outside of work will not be as quick to him as Helly who doesn’t give a damn. We’ve seen some glimpses of him trying to comprehend things (not understanding why petey is gone, unable to grasp that petey would make a map, etc) Yall give my man Mark some respect LMAO

Forgot to mention, in that map that Mark shredded it showed houses and Helly was asking about why there would be houses on the severed floor. Remember, Petey told Mark that some severed people never leave and that they were still there even after everyone else left. This means those peoples outties have essentially "died" because the severed version of them never leaves the severed floor, so they never go back to being their normal outtie sselves. Theyre basically dead to the world.

Sheera the thing you forgot to mention to Lupa and Roshi from my previous comment about the stairwell scene was that Milchik (the black guy) was standing in the stairwell telling Helly to go back in everytime she tried to leave. If Mark had watched her leave he wouldve seen Milchik telling her to go back inside and he wouldve 1. Realized that Milchik is not severed. The stairwell is an unsevered zone, Milchik standing out there and telling her to go back in is only possible if hes not severed but the team dont know hes not severed 2. Mark wouldve realized that the reason they cant leave during the orientation is not because their outtie is choosing to come back, its because Milchik is waiting in the stairwell to manipulate their outtie into going back inside

This episode explains what i was saying in my previous comment. They dont need to withold the resignation request from the outtie. They know more often then not, the outtie will NEVER make the decision to quit because they dont know whats happening to them inside (and the innie is not allowed to tell them) so as far as the outtie is concerned, they dont have a reason to want to quit so the requests are always denied. Whats worse, even if the outtie did know what was happening to them inside they still might not care since they arent the one actually experiencing it and would likely still deny the request anyway. Thats what makes Severance a perfect system for companies to exploit. They pretty much have guaranteed slaves until the outtie decides to quit from old age.

My question is, does Mark's "innie" remember the things that him and Petey's "innie" may have tried/talked about 100%? IDK if I'm missing it, but it mainly seems that Mark at work knows that he and Petey had a close relationship, but I can't tell if it's clear that he knows what he and Petey may have done to attempt to bypass the severance. I figured that by now with Helly and her attempts, we would have gotten a more clear " I've tried it and it doesn't work" type of response to explain how he approaches her rebelliousness, but it feels like to me more of a situation where he did try the things she did, but doesn't know exactly what he has tried? Like when he mentioned Gartner using the "good vs. bad soap" punishment or how Milchik doesn't have to be as "nice" as he has been. Those moments made it seem like he experienced these things himself but I couldn't tell if he was trying to say those are general punishments, or direct results of when he once tried to essentially leave/disrupt the job intentionally? That's kind of why I wasn't annoyed with him shredding the map, because they were getting a little aggravating, lol, but also, maybe his response or "aloofness" to why Helly is rebelling is due to him just not having a 100% clear memory even while at work. I figure that maybe if he's been to the break room/wellness center enough times, maybe the treatments actually distort his time there or he is somehow surpressing it. Like maybe her challenging his loyalty/feelings towards his friendship with Petey triggered him because he can't remember the full extent, but does understand they had strong enough ties to be his BFF.
