i hope you're joking lol. they're generally pretty good at predicting stuff, especially Sheera. I'm not a person who tries to predict things in shows/movies at all but i understood the concept of being severed like 10 minutes into the first episode. all starting with the 5 questions, not having answers for the personal questions only for the general knowledge one. which then also makes the outside helly/inside helly immediately obvious. the mysterious stranger being Petey isn't very hard to figure out either. i love this show but the "mystery" is really easy to solve in the first episode. when people write shows like this they write them so you can figure out stuff before it gets explained... if you pay attention

On the initial watch of this show I compared it to be like twice from my hero academia and his situation but when I sat down and thought about it more I realized this show is literally just the night family episode from Rick and Morty but the series. I highly recommend watching it if you've never seen it even if you don't like Rick and Morty that episode was amazing and this shows parallels it perfectly. I believe trapped is the perfect word because while it may have been your outside self choice it wasn't yours because at that point they are two different people and if you were the work self after a while you come to resent the outside one for well like lupa was alluding slavery at the end of the day they don't get to enjoy anything to relax like watching TV or anime reading eating different foods or simply going outside. I remember first watching the night family episode and agreeing with Rick and the family and thinking I would do that if I could but then I realized how messed up it truly is. As far as the orientation video of consent and all that it just boils down to the illusion of control I can't wait to see how far this goes.

One thing that I really don't understand is that if the working side really does not want to be in this loop of work until their original self decides to leave is why don't they just.. Get fired? Like, just don't do your job and they'll have to fire you eventually. I think the show is obviously exploring issues with worker rights and how much time and how much of yourself it's "normal" to put into work. But you also have the original selves taking part in the exploitation of their own labour in a sense, but they're still physically connected. A long day at work is something you can feel in your body, a lot of stress can cause severe health issues etc. I think the most disturbing part is that they can present any version of your work day to you. Helly threw something at Mark's head, but what's to stop them physically threatening/disciplining him and telling him it was a workplace accident? Honestly hate the concept, but it's an interesting show.

I really like the scene where Helly is “allowed” to leave but ends up in an “infinite corridor” cliche sci-fi thriller situation. Lumon has this twisted way of telling their employees: “No matter what you try, you’re not going anywhere as long as we control the narrative in the workplace, and you believe it.” It’s like when Mark got that little card for his injury, full of lies. Plus, not letting Mark see Helly’s attempts to escape adds a whole psychological dehumanizing experience for her, and also as she opens the door from the other side, she would see a man right there and them talking would be a serious problem.

Their consciousness is made up entirely of their work experience. Those versions of themselves are trapped. They’re there but they still have the human need to wonder. They have curiosity. They wonder what their lives outside of work are. If they’re happy, if they have families, if they have love and what their outside desires are. These versions of themselves did not choose to work- their outside versions chose for them. It’s literally a split personality where one personality makes life decisions for the other without giving them input. Consider Helley wanted to leave but she was not now to because her outside personality forces her to work. Does that sound like freedom? Regardless if a version of you says you have to do this thing the you experiencing it DOES NOT WANT TO DONTHE THING. That’s being trapped. No choice. No out. No say in it at all. Who would be ok with that if you know there’s a life out there you’re being denied? If they had no knowledge there was an outside world, that’s one thing but to know it exists and to be denied ever experiencing it is torture.

At the end I think Ms.Selvig/Boss was “testing” his memory retention since she openly contradicted what she said earlier. She had said her mother was an atheist in the office when giving an analogy then at “home” she’s saying her mother was a catholic. I have to disagree, the knowledge of the severance procedure doesn’t mean the work personas aren’t trapped — they have no outside memories, including family and biographical information, so the entirety of their personality and experience is based off of what happens at work. I know roshi and sheera watch it on their off time because roshi has tweeted about the new season. Same with the boys S1-2, wandavision, falcon and the winter soldier, etc the reason why you don’t see those is because they watched it by themselves. Remember they only started doing live action reactions aka no cartoons or anime with loki S1 which is 2021. They started as an anime only reaction channel but branched off though this means they’ve already watched a bunch of shows they now have to start at the later seasons if they want to film a reaction because whats the point in rewatching things when their main strength is off the cusp live reacting? Lupa said the severance procedure is weird but to be honest it's not. Think of it like this. People usually hate their jobs and don't want to go to work. If you can't remember your job, you don't have that problem. Think of it from a security stand point. Corporate espionage would be almost impossible. The CIA/NSA would probably kill for tech like that. I really only see two things wrong with the severance procedure. 1. The work version would technically be a slave. S/he wouldn't have any free time away from work. S/he wouldn't be able to enjoy the money made from work. 2. The work version can't quit and the personal version wouldn't want to. I swear I saw a recap for a movie where peoples memories from work were removed everyday. This is similar but more automatic.

For the person who’s outside of work, of course they probably wouldn’t care but I think if they knew exactly how their other selves felt about being trapped there. Imagine waking up at work one day and after 8 hr closing your eyes and opening it up and you still at work for two years. I don’t think it matters whether you are told you decided to stay at work, as long as you don’t remember making that decision it is basically hell, can never leave, never date, the boss breathing down your neck , workplace politics, abuse and all that shit for a reason you don’t even know, bills you will never pay or need to, and money someone else is using. I was always interested in the show because I love Adam Scott’s (the main character) work but never got a chance to tap in! I also think it‘a different from a 9 to 5 as we know it because even if you focus on your job while you are there or use it as a distraction from your personal life you still REMEMBER your personal life. Where for them there is no memory it’s not even repression the memory of who you are outside is simply nonexistent while you’re in the building after the severance procedure. I also still see it as trapped but maybe more in a catch 22 way like the endless loop of it all. Even though they have you on camera saying I’m choosing this I want to work here and agree to the terms and conditions it is still not of your own volition due to the loss of memory or rather separated memory…because if they had their personal and work memory was connected they would keep walking out the door versus turning back around because they don’t know why they tried to leave! It’s a really intriguing show it seems like and I like the idea of turning the “work/life balance” on its head because for most people the balance is near impossible just with how many hours people have to spend at work.
