Fixes to video quality and played status

A bug with video quality on some media players like PS3 was reported, and sometimes videos are not marked as played when they have been.

These fixes will be in the next release but here is a pre-release for anyone affected by them. If you noticed recently that some videos are very blocky/pixelated, give this a try, and thanks to those who reported it!

14.0.0 is here!

After 10 months of development and testing, we are releasing v14 into the wild. The set of changes is huge, even since the public beta.

The general theme for the changes is security and privacy. You now have control over who gets access to which media, with the ability to assign content and renderers to users who each get their own fully played tracking.

For more information about these features, please see 2024-05-11 21:36:04 +0000 UTC View Post

13.10.1

This release fixes a number of bugs on all renderers, particularly Samsung QLED and LG OLED TVs and Sony PlayStation 4.

We have finally reached the end of the known v14 bugs so this is very likely to be the last v13 release. Thank you for your patience and support!

14.0.0-b1

The first public beta for V14 is finally here!

It contains major new features based on what our users have asked for. We have been working on this version for the last 11 months, and it represents a giant leap forward for the project in many ways.

The biggest changes involve the ability to control access to your content. This includes improvements to user accounts like avatars and playback status per user, as well as the ability to display different content to different devices. View Post

13.8.1

This release fixes transcoding for some devices and bumps our major dependencies like FFmpeg and MediaInfo, as well as many others.

It is possibly our last v13 release, as our preview builds for v14 have been very stable and are feature-complete now. We are essentially in bug-fixing mode for that version, and now maintenance mode for this version.

LG Dolby Vision MKV with internal subtitles

Our next step forward with Dolby Vision support is to stream internal subtitles with it. Here's a preview build for those who want to try. It will extract subtitles that match your language preferences and stream them to the TV. Let us know if you find any bugs!

We have added support for automatic muxing of HDR streams for better video quality (e.g. Dolby Vision in MKV on LG TVs), done other improvements to device support, and fixed a TON of bugs!

I believe we are now the only DLNA media server that allows LG TVs to play Dolby Vision in MKVs, which has been a big source of frustration for LG TV owners looking to make the most of their TVs. We have more related improvements to come.

v14 alpha

Here's our first V14 alpha release. It enables you to allow and block devices and network interfaces via the web settings, and to decide whether they are blocked or allowed by default.

It's labelled alpha because there are more features to come, which will let you have custom shared folders for different renderers/devices. This is one of our most requested features with many possibilities, for example sharing a set of content with your family TV, then a different set with your bedroom T...

LG TV Dolby Vision in MKV fixed

Here's a preview we have been talking to some people about - a common frustration for LG TV users is that the TVs support Dolby Vision in MP4 but not MKV. In this build, we remux those MKV files on-the-fly to allow you to use them.

Here it is for Windows, if you want another operating system just comment and I'll add it.

Infrastructure upgrades

We have completed upgrades to our API infrastructure in order to handle all the new users and features.

We can already see that there are more requests getting through than before, with almost 2x the requests and bandwidth being used. This really validates the decision to upgrade!

We would not have been able to commit to the roughly 2x higher monthly fees for this upgrade without your donations, so thank you! You are really helping to improve UMS for everyone.
