I definitely enjoyed the show. Regardless of some of my issues with John and Jane’s dynamic. 8.5/10 for me. I would love a next season. I think they could do a bit of both making an anthology and continuation. Introduce a new John and Jane for like 2-3 episodes maybe using them to flush out more of the backstory of the agency and who HiHi is and then bring back the John and Jane from S1 and have the story continue with them.

the way the shots went 1 2 quick then a little wait then the 3rd shot, it seemed like to me jane #2 tried to shoot jane twice and missed then our jane got her with the last bullet. that probably seemed confusing but yea idk 😭 i feel like their alive bc it was off camera and they need to see if they get enough numbers for a season 2 so it was like a 2 way ending, there could be a continuation or it could just be left at 1 season

So my theory is that it has nothing to do with the fails for why they take the Smiths out. Eventually, they use the Smiths till they have no use for them and hunt them down afterwards. Failing 3 missions is just an arbitrary number. Either they turn the Smiths against each other (this is why they were sowing conflict between them early on and tried to convince Jane to replace John) or they send the “high risk” Smiths to take them out. Only a select few become high risk to regulate the rest. When the high risk John and Jane showed up, they said “I expected we’d find two corpses”. To me that signals many Smiths turn on each other and one kills the other and they clean up the one left or move em high risk maybe. They purposely put 2 people together that are incompatible knowing they will eventually turn on each other (John is very close to his mom, gets attached too easily, wants kids while Jane is not close to her dad, is cold and tries not to keep attachments). As far as the ending, I would like to see a season 2 where they survived and are on the run trying to find more info about the company, but I think its more likely that they are dead and this becomes an anthology series. Theres been a lot of anthologies recently. Feels like the new trend.

Enjoyed the show but I don't know that I need another season. I thought they told a pretty complete story about the dynamics of a marriage. In terms of the ending, it's up to the viewer, but I'm pretty sure they're dead. Remember the show opens with a pair of Smiths getting killed. Even if our Smiths somehow survived the apartment fight, their time is limited. Eventually they're going to get got.

To the last point; Could be a thing where everyone has a use even if it's limited. Like other jobs with high turnover rates. Put your employees through extreme, taxing, or terrible work conditions. If they complete their tasks? Great! If not? Remove and replace, rinse and repeat. Cogs in the machine.

You're most likely correct but that also feels like an overdone plot point in 2024, the new Mission Impossible movie did that and with AI entering our daily lives it feels like just a safe, topical plot point whereas in the 90s-early 2000s it was more novel and mysterious. Now we've had like 20 different AI villains in major movies in the last 5 years.

I feel like she opened the door and smith 2 shot once missing before getting entangled with our Smith. Our Smith forces the other to fire again, maybe hitting somewhere less vital, before overcoming the other smith and maneuvering to deliver the killshot to the other. John hangs on by a thread. The agent from the last episode will probably come into play again.

The same we who commented the exact same thing I mentioned in my comments prior. Again it's wrong and no one WAS SAYING it was right, it was understandable. Many people agreed it was a very humane thing that John did, possibly alluding to John not taking his position seriously, underestimating Hihi (Obliviously a bad on John's part). It goes without saying he didn't think the company would try to take out his mother. Many people mentioned that Hihi most definitely knew about his connection with his mom, but did nothing about it. And again, I remember commenting on episode 3 about how it's hard for some people to cut contact with people they are super close to. John and Jane both barely had any other opportunities for work. We can acknowledge that it was irresponsible, but given the circumstances who can really cut contact for such an unknown amount of time.

Every time I consume something produced/written/created by Donald Glover i'm always impressed with his talents. As a married man who watched this with is wife, we LOVED how ambiguously wrong/right they both were at all times it felt so intentional and based on the trio and the comments this whole season it worked lol. I do wonder however how "Bad" these 2 actually are compared to the countless of other smiths that were finalized. We might be surprised that these 2 might have been more competent that some of the others It seems to me more like HIHI is experimenting with the couples to see what balance is needed for super spy longevity/control/predictability.

IF they do a season two, i want one of two things: 1. anthology series following different smiths. at the end of season 2 they also have three strikes so they have to be finalized and guess who it is: maya and gambino! they survived and took the other smiths' jobs as smith killers. thats how we clear up the mystery of season 1. 2. follow maya and gambino as they try to take down the company

They gave themselves a small window for a continuation if they wanted to keep them alive by introducing John's mom and showing she had a key to the house. If she had former military training or some awareness of John's actual job (i doubt it) it's maybe plausible she could have come back and saved them? I strongly doubt it but it's like a cracked open door i guess. I think it's more likely that they just died and that's the end of the series. I also think hihi was maybe an AI the way the other smiths spoke about him.

Yall remember that John quit last episode so he wouldn't have checked or even taken his laptop. Also Jane destroyed a laptop at the end of last episode. That may have ben John's laptop. Edit: I also think Hihi may be an AI. That's the only way I can think of that he/it would know so much about them even before they joined the organization. nope. it was meant to be a limited series but they always change that when awards and high viewership numbers come in. we are very much in a "wait and see" space of limbo. it has been in the top ten of nielson waitings for weeks now even with it first airing over a month ago so its all up to does the studio want more and do the writers have more stories to tell. i wouldnt mind it being an anthology series like beef or american horror story: each season we get a new jane and john to follow.

I was bringing up max as an example of an innocent lost in all this, but you are right 😅 Jane definitely was in the wrong for a lot of the personal relationship stuff, but John definitely didn't have the best mentality for the kind of job he signed up for at all. I think part of the comedy was supposed to be how bad they are at their jobs, the show had a very unique dynamic which I loved.

And although a human and an animal aren't in the same boat, the only reason jane is so judgmental is because the only thing on the planet she is close with is Max and she brought him and he died because of it. Idk who "we" is but there were literally people who were saying it's alright and Hihi doesn't care because "of course they know who he's talking to and they haven't said or done anything." Some people were saying they were out of line for being so harsh on John. But they weren't. Of course it's relatable to feel a need to talk to your mom, what's not relatable is knowingly putting that mom in danger. So you're either saying John wasn't smart enough to account for the risk of disobeying direct orders at his obviously dangerous job, he just doesn't take Hihi and being a spy seriously, or he didn't care what happened. None of that looks good at all.

Maybe a season 2 with a new John and Jane that digs more into HiHi and what the agency actually is doing and how “He” knows everything maybe a (AI), but this John and Jane is for sure dead.
