Hirata is basically upset that things didn't occur in a natural and fair way in the last exam but Horikita actually made the voting process more fair by presenting the class with all the information. Hirata's behavior would be more valid if he had an alternative to make everything truly fair but he had no plan of his own so now he's acting like a bitch because everyone want to arrive at a solution without leaving things up to chance.

They constantly cut his real thoughts and the characters feel so bland compared to the light novel. Having more episodes makes the story feel more natural and better paced.

The source of the problem is that the moment the show even slightly veers away from the main character, everyone loses their gods damned minds and starts screaming about filler. Just look at what happened with Tsukimichi when the 2nd and 3rd episodes of this season covered the heroes. Everyone went crazy because of it. The animators started cutting the character building for the side characters in some shows, and so those of us who actually care about plot and world building are the ones that suffer. There’s a reason why I stopped reading Shield Hero’s novels, and it’s because it’s all told solely in Naofumi’s point of view, except for certain epilogues, and he’s a very unreliable narrator. I like seeing the world through several different characters’ eyes, as it makes the world more real and easier to visualize. Now they’re taking the context for characters’ actions out and expect us to just roll with it?! UGGHHH!!! Ok… rant over. Sorry about that.

Reading it was extremely difficult, but these next 2 volumes (10 and 11) are considered to be the best volumes in cote. The mindgames in this exam will be interesting, and the chess match especially.
