check out the source martial! the negative effects of US's imperialism and shady tactics to start the war in the middle east with Iran's "nukes" are much much more pertinent. The Netflix adaptation is basically perfect but Urasawa tends to write alot of anti west themes leading to some censorship. The robot hate group wears straight up KKK robes and it's not subtle lmfao, same with the Iran comparisons.

Fun fact about the uh. white cloaks with the anti-robot people. In the Pluto manga, they straight up have pointed hoods and everything. Very clearly a nod towards the KKK. The real world influences of Pluto (and Astro Boy, for that matter) are pretty present throughout. Osamu Tezuka grew up during the times of WW2 and its fallout, and it had influences in his creations, especially Astro Boy. If I believe correctly, the original Astro Boy Arc that Pluto is based off of is implied to be a nod towards the Cuban Missle Crisis? But I could be wrong with that one. Pluto, on the other hand, had been made around the time of the American involvement in Iraq, as well as the conflicts brought from it. Thracia, in the Pluto series, is America. It's very obviously meant to be America. I won't say more, as you three are early on, but Pluto being based off the American-Iraq conflict is VERY noticable if you pay attention on the parts talking of the 39th Central Asian War.

Just to clear a bit of misunderstanding, what Lupa thought was supposed to describe an android is actually a cyborg, as in, cybernetic organism i.e. if living organisms such as humans had to get mechanical parts to replace organs/limbs, then we become a cyborg. An android on the other hand are like Gesicht, Atom etc i.e. actual robots that are made to look like humans/have mostly human-like features. I do understand that the misconception can come from Dragon Ball if you're a long-time fan (I am a fan too and I only realized this when I grew up and read more), where 17, 18 and 20 (Dr. Gero) are actually cyborgs since they were actual humans before, whereas 16 and 19 are androids. Loving the slightly longer end discussions that come with this show. Reminds me of your Vinland Saga talks. Y’all really seem into it and that’s great. Wish the dub vs sub shit would stop. I wanted dub (switched to dub two episodes in to try it out and liked it), but I’m enjoying sub a lot this second time around and they seem to be vibing it, too. Complaining or fighting about it just detracts from how good the show is regardless of what language it’s in. Personally, I couldn’t handle Uran. Lol I know she’s modeled after a curious and headstrong little girl that wants to take care of all these strays, but still, that trope always gets to me in media. Frustrating even when it’s understandable. My little girl is a bit like that already and she’s barely three. I feel like I’m doomed. 😭
