Volume plays into it. White kids are not starved for positive representation in media or gaming, but there were (and still honestly are) way fewer POCs in either. Whitewashing a single dark skinned character is very literally a bigger loss than the opposite would be.

Why do we, rightly so, have a problem with whitewashing characters (changing the race or skin tone to make the character whiter), but then don't have any problem with changing the skin color or race of a white character?
