I'm pretty sure I recall Fyodor saying something about gifted being sinners. There's also the flashback we got in this episode which looked like the same war Mori and Yosano were in where Mori said the war was to prove gifted were the next evolution of warfare, which would give Fyodor and Fukuchi a common motive

They both think alike, so i don't belive in the slightest either has the capability to outsmart the other.

I guess it's just a bad sub moment but it really threw me off π. I find joy in his insane the disparity between the genius writing moment and the bad writing moments are in this show so this might have been me having fun with that.
