Born in the Wrong Era
Added 2022-07-22 12:27:04 +0000 UTCSome weeks ago I was dancing in a fountain (and I mean IN the fountain, which is why I sat in the sun to dry off afterward, as you can see) for a photo shoot for a new agency job. Afterward, I was enjoying the gorgeous Volkspark Friedrischain (stay tuned to see the fountain reprised in a future video) and then had to take a call with a fellow activist about our upcoming speech at an antifa memorial for Beate Fischer, a sex worker killed by Nazis in the '90s. (FYI: In Berlin, "antifa" is not a bad word. Being anti-fascist is not controversial. What a thought.)
All the while, unbeknownst to me, I was being observed.
A woman came up to me and asked if she could take some pictures of me for a project she was working on about Romanticism and how people interact with the relics of Old Berlin. We fell into a fascinating conversation, and then I was instructed to not change anything at all about what I was doing and she'd be in touch. We exchanged e-mails.
A while later, I received these lovely photos of the graceful afternoon light falling on the tutu of what is clearly a Romantic-era ballerina in repose--transplanted to the 21st century by some mistake of the time-space continuum.
