In this video, #7 in my "dancing from my bedroom" series, I attempt to process through art the horrors transpiring in Italy and the incredible heroism we are seeing there.
This piece was inspired by a New York Times article (link below) that absolutely blew me away. It is one thing to hear the news reports as one goes about one's day; it is another entirely to see extraordinary photo journalism, with images of people ill and dying in their homes, overwhelmed hospitals, funeral homes, and graveyards; and, most remarkably, the health care workers who are fighting this war.
I have a lot of family in Italy. Thus far, as far as we've heard, they are all well, being mostly in the south. Fingers extremely crossed that it will continue this way.
This video is dedicated to the people of Italy--to my family, to those who are suffering from illness of the body or exhaustion of the mind, and most especially to the health care workers in the trenches, some of whom have died from the virus, without whose superhuman tireless labor and compassion, we would all surely be losing millions more lives.
Stay safe; stay well; hug those you love if you can.
Fondly,
Ernestine
