additional stuff: as you can see, we are currently in a series on the peasantry but we will also post a poll soon so that y'all can vote on the next topic after that. also, we will be reading off the names of patrons on a future episode as a thank you to everyone. we will stick with first names only but if you would prefer to retain your anonymity, please let us know and we will honor that request!

A question in the same vein as Charlotte's: Can historians (broadly) pinpoint the moment, when tribal association ("I am Fergus of Clan McDowell!") was superseded by other kinds (professional, local...) of self-identification and became "I am Herbert, the Blacksmith from Tits-on-the-Bog!" or "Je suis François, the frog catcher of Putain-sur-Mer"?
2021-05-10 12:14:03 +0000 UTCHello! I loved this episode! I have a question about how people, especially peasants, understood themselves in terms of social class and place in society. Were people like, yes I'm a peasant and that makes me similar to all other peasants in some way, or was their understanding more about location, occupation, or some other division?
