Like 100 of us in the comments are saying it's needed. Pain arc is the best arc in Naruto and next episode would've hit different if you watched it after this speech ( if you know you know). I wacthed this arc in one breath and it still stays on top for me. But I doubt it that it will be as impactful to them if they don't wacth it like that. I know that it is their schedule but I wouldn't watch any of the big 3 with so much other stuff at the same time because you have to focus on the story for it to be as good as it is. Great villains often have sympathetic goals, but questionable means of attaining them, Pain is a good example of that. While what he's saying his more or less correct, and also a reflection of the world we live in ourselves, who knows if it's actually the right move. It probably isn't, but who knows. Personally, while I think his desire for peace is admirable, and his logic sound, I question if the initial mass annihilation caused by his weapons is a price that is proportionate to the temporary "peace" gained. Especially considering the weapons will inevitably be used again, and that the "peace" isn't as much "peace" as it is a temporary end to large scale conflicts. But yeah, great character, definitely a couple steps above the average shonen villain.

Nagato's vision is basically the world we are living in right now. A tailed beast weapon strong enough to wipe out an entire country is basically the equivalent of a nuclear bomb. He wants to create this weapon, use it and bring a fake sense of peace through the fear of it being used again. He even mentions how with time those feelings of hate from the people it was used on will eventually fade which draws parallels to how the atomic bomb was used on Japan. I cannot speak for everyone but it seems as though the feelings of hate of the Japanese people towards the west has faded with time. And now all the large world powers avoid conflict with each other to avoid nuclear warfare as they are all scared of the consequences, thus creating this era of false peace.

If the show "Naruto" wasn't about the person Naruto, and the tailed beasts werent within characters like Naruto and Gaara, this is a "good" idea. Using nuclear weapons to prevent war (not using the weapons, but threat of mutually assured destruction) is a good idea that reflects real life, it just so happens those nuclear weapons are inhabiting the bodies of characters we like, and extracting such tailed beasts would kill our liked characters

@Mten10th I don’t know how the deaths of a handful of jinchuriki is really relevant; he would have to kill a hell of a lot more by using his weapon once to even enact his plan. His idea is that it would at least ensure a couple generations of peace at a time, which is better than what they had going in their world. As far as living in fear goes, it would be like everyone who lived through the Cold War: you know destruction is a possibility, but you still live your life and live it in peace.

I would say that is the opposite of shortsighted. It could be considered shortsighted to NOT kill a few innocent jinchuriki to ensure long term peace. He’s willing to do a little evil for what he believes is an ultimately greater good. We know from our own reality that his plan is flawed (nuclear deterrence clearly does not end war), but the idea, as despicable as it may be, looks sound in theory.

but honestly I kinda agree with Nagato’s plan. Its so realistic and cruel at the same time but as we know this world isnt always peaceful like what naruto’s naive thinking. At least “fear” can prevent the big war. It has similar/same case with nuclear weapon in this real world. What I loved about Ep 165 was how much I was able to understand the viewpoint of Pain despite him being the antagonist in this story, and Naruto was not able to give him an answer to his question hence why the approach he chose to take to create World peace. The only thing I disagree with Pain is that this is not the method of creating peace Jiraiya was teaching him about by using fear to control all nations and their people.

this is long but not a spoiler as none of it happens in the anime or main manga Guy is the only person to keep kakashi grounded, backstory after obito died guy took his place on team kakashi so they kinda knew eachother but kakashi joined the anbu and became a heartless killer guy saw that and begged danzo to let him join as well but was told no bc he lacked a dark heart so he then went to the hokage and asked him to remove kakashi from the anbu bc what it was doing to him he couldn't just remove him so he set him as the hokage guard instead of front line as a killer what a goat
