ATLA Live Action Announcement

Alright Sushi Squad, we have an announcement. And frankly, we knew this day would eventually come....And its one that we took a lot of time discussing and deciding upon. Which is why we made this video instead of just created a text post. We explain everything in this video. We hope you guys understand, and we are sorry for anyone we are letting down. But ultimately, we truly believe, this will actually end up benefiting all of our other content.

Comments

i watched the first 5 minutes and immediately was like no this is not gonna be worth my time. 100% agreed

David

Great. Because it fucking sucks

Miles Coleman

I hope you watch off stream like one your before bed watches

Jordan

Song at the end?

Kenpichigo

I like the show I think it was well. Seeing a more realistic interpretation of characters feels nice. Plus the darker side that gets shown I enjoy.

Car

yeah netflix is great at getting production value for their dollar. they are however ass at picking showrunners/directors. i think OPLA managed to homerun it because oda smacked his meat on the table before netflix got rights to it

DB Cooper

Understandable. IMO the show ended up being awesome. Yes it’s not perfect, but still good. I’ve found that ppl who haven’t enjoyed seemed to have wanted that 1-1 adaptation which definitely did not happen. Zuko was a standout for sure.

Alante Quarles

that sucks, regardless of what these comments say, the show isn't bad at all. You just have to get passed the shitty casting. I say you at least give it a try off camera to see if you like it or not. At least up to wear Aang meets Bumi

bluemilk

Also dude, the SECOND SEASON OF TOKYO GHOUL is FILLER. How many times do I have to say it? none of the happens in the manga... So how can you propose an idea to them of going from the first two seasons of the anime to then pick up with manga, when the second season is not even in the manga?? this the shit im talkin bout man. You people are mindless.

LelouchFam

See this is what im talking about... your begging someone to watch a series you have barely experienced for yourself outside of maybe the first 30 chapters of content (season 1) you have never experienced RE which is the best part of tokyo ghoul, that reveals all of the questions from season one... like your begging someone to watch something you are hardly a fan of. See I am actually a fan of tokyo ghoul, It's also the reason i hate that you people are trying to set them up into watching a show that zero benefits or payoffs. This is almost as bad as tricking reactors into watching berserk LMFAO

LelouchFam

Watch black clover!!

Kwabs Maniac

Thank god man the live action is mid, you guys are fine never going back to that 🤙🏽

Crusito96

As so many cheered on the trailer, I was one of the few lone souls in a YouTube comment section saying "Wow. You're all wearing rose-tinted glasses. This looks and sounds REALLY bad." One of those times that it is sad to be right. :( ATLA is a great show. There will never be a worthy live action at this rate.

Mason

Yes, I actually enjoyed the first 2 seasons, and no, I haven't read the manga, nor do I really care to do so. I went in completely blind and ended up enjoying it until after season 2, where it got confusing, and the animation changed. But it's not that deep. The idea I proposed for them would be to watch the first 2 seasons, and then if they're up for it, from then on, they can read the manga going forward. Simple. No one's trying to "set them up". They just seemed genuinely intrigued by the show, and there are people like me who initially liked it as well. I personally think they'd like it, so if they do, great, and if they don't that's fair and they can drop it. But ultimately, it's up to them because this is THEIR experience. It's not a huge deal. I didn't really care for them reacting to ATLA live action either. But I didn't start whining about it in their comments, telling them not to watch it just because I'm personally not into it. I simply just watched their other reactions to the shows I AM interested in.

defnotdai

Nah, it's fine. It's just that fandoms as a rule don't know how to manage their expectations when it's being adapted to a different medium for a wider audience, so if it's not 1 to 1 with their expectation they go REEEE.

hurryupmode

Ragna Crimson!!!!

Adam B

As much as it may be upsetting(?) for some people I actually love and I respect you more for this , not forcing yourself into a show just proves that you really enjoy the other shows you watched , even if the timing wasn’t helping for this one ..

Rawaby 1204

akame ga kill slot hopefully hahaha

Mavoal On fleek

It does, the script is terrible and the dialogue is not natural between two people talking. It's like when characters are talking they are not talking to each other but it is meant for the audience and I hate that.

Daryl Kitchen

Good, don't force yourself to watch something you are not enjoying. It's better than the movie that came out but still suffers from exposition dumping on the audience instead of showing the audience. I watched the first two episodes and still haven't felt the desire to continue watching.

Daryl Kitchen

Oh my bad I thought it was for regular shows too 💭

AB

Aang grew on me throughout the eps, y’all would have rocked with it I think an wanted to see, hope y’all enjoy it in your free time!

Jose Huerta

If this is a PHD dissertation to you and not basic media literacy (by which I mean Watch and Empathize) to say "100 years of war changed Bumi in more realistic and fleshed out ways" then the "Dumb" one here is you. You commented under my thread and attacked my opinion so I defended it. Then you bitched out and blocked me.

hurryupmode

Ima be hones, I watched all of it, and there was maybe 30 minutes of it I wanted to see your reaction to, primarily the relationship between Bumi and and Aang, and Zuko and Iroh, other than that Sokka was the only good thing about the liveaction you guys are good.

Cyr

cool. I figured that might be the case just wanted to check in ccase I needed too keep an eye out for a poll to vote on.

Christine Copeland aka Christine's Culinary Quest

i heard the writting sucked

Alex

Id rather y'all j stick w the animation anyway. It's cool what they tried to do but nothing could ever live up to the OG. If it happened to come out before you'd seen the original I think you'd find it a bit better. Just like the OP live action

dustrr

not surprised, the show sucked

Simic Trucido

Katekyo Hitman Reborn? What are you talking about? I love the series, but they're talking about live action ATLA. Or is this a joke that went over my head? It wouldn't be the first time. 😅

Merfhew

This is baked potato I change my name. Honestly, I did not want you guys to watch the live action. I watched it all the way through, and I think it would spoil so much.

Saith Uchiha

so happy with this lol I suffered through the episodes

mb

I had high expectations after seeing how well One Piece Live Action went. I had hoped others would take a look at they did right and try to translate that to ATLA buttttt… anyway your decision is valid, looking forward to more from yall!

Kat

All of your responses just read like a dumb person trying to sound smart. Which is why you’re trying to write a PhD dissertation in the comment section about a crappy Netflix show. Go get a different hobby. Trying to make yourself feel smart in comment sections isn’t a healthy one. Bye.

Sam

Plz don’t drop hitman reborn 😭 I’m sure you’ll love it, no rush

AB

I fully support this 😂 don't even stress

Haidar Mashlab

86 was a heater, hxh is a heater, they got plenty bro. Parasyte will be a heater

LelouchFam

It's not even an opinion really its genuinely not a good show and it was ruined on purpose by studio pierriot. yeah the first season is okay it follows the manga for the most part(still excludes some of the best content but it's watchable) but the second season is literally complete filler and serves no place in the show... then in the third season they decide to follow the manga again lmfao but instead they put 180 chapters into 20 episodes... making season three one of the worst things i have ever experienced. it seems like you two seem to think that the second season was actually good?? which boggles my mind, it literally takes an amazing story and decides to completely change it and go a different way, the whole second season is filler lol. Guess you two never experienced the manga. This is different from promised neverland in that the first season of that show is honestly more then enough to watch, it has a great climax, and conclusion in its own right. Tokyo ghoul doesn’t great final episode of the first season but all it gives you is expectations for whats to come next and what follows is content that ruined what could have been one of the greatest anime of all time up there with attack on titan... etc (root A and Re 🤮) I mean you guys can suggest whatever you want to them, but it just seems you all are setting them up for no reason. Getting their hopes up with a good first season and then once their ready to move onto season two, all of the comments will be saying to stop after the first season lmfao. The show is literally a setup, i've seen it happen on so many other reactors channels. watching this show is such a bait for reactors. I'm just trying to expose that before it happens.

LelouchFam

Not mad at this at all. AtLA Live Action is such an afterthought to me. I’ve still only seen the first episode, and I’m one who thought it was decent lol. Live Action adaptations of anime are largely just…unnecessary.

Michael H

Bro calm down, it is not that deep. Have they read the manga? No. So it deadass doesn’t impact their opinion on the show. AND they’d only watch like the first two seasons, which are good. It’s like the same idea they had for promised never land, deciding to only watching the first season. Let them experience shows for themselves and if you personally don’t like it, you don’t have to watch it. If they like it, they’ll continue, if they don’t, they’ll drop it. Simple

defnotdai

Not surprising at all. I think all the live actions adaptions are just a poor attempt at leeching off the original. Keep live action and animated shows seperate.

Hertog

Yeah I just can’t get over how they look like the cosplaying. Acting is mid. Changed up storyline is dumb. Just too many negatives IMO. Glad yall not wasting your time

WallyOne

watch cowboy bebop anime in english dub its a classic

Adam

Good decision

Quenarc

also when did your opinion supersede everyone elses? You just assume they’ll hate the rest just because you did lmao be quiet, let them do as they please

Montanna Roberts

Tokyo ghoul is a good show, just because you disliked it does not take away from the first few seasons. Stop being a prick

Montanna Roberts

time to squeeze in a pluto reaction in the future instead :p

Jay rellim

facts

Ron Jackson Jr

Time to get Spy x Family S2!!

SWAF

Completely unnecessary show, animated stands on its own

Vader

I mean it’s my opinion , what’s your S tier class anime? Ain’t nothing but love I rock with them and I get the business thing. But still throw some heaters , along with the “busniess” anime shows lol

Bigfishblanco

I don't mind as never will watch it. Now you can start "Maquia The Promised Flower Blooms" anime movie =)

Thamor

Meh

Alex

I totally get it

Shaide

01:52 FACTSSSSSS!!! I gave up on it mid episode 3

Abdul-Rahman Lawal

100 percent guys you don’t need to justify your decision, more so than anything I appreciate your honesty.. as long as you appreciate the og series Say Less and Stay Blessed 🙏🏾 Namaste

Tyjutsuu

the amount of yall in here beggin them to watch a show that is known for being one of the worst adaptations in modern anime history... cough cough tokyo ghoul.... is genuinely kinda sad. yall want to have them react to one good season and then be forced to watch watered down slideshows of the manga for the next three seasons? thats sad. the manga is the one and only way to experience tokyo ghoul outside of the first 12 episodes

LelouchFam

outside of maybe code geass none of the shows you mentioned are S tier in any way lol. their anime selections are fine... if they was watching every show you wanted them to watch there would be another person just like you saying "garbage choices" 😢 lol. Besides this is a business first and foremost, none of those show generate many views black clover probably the biggest you named and it will hardly get them any new viewers. check the numbers on youtube lol dead show.

LelouchFam

Completely understand. I made it through 2 episodes and couldn't find the motivation to continue. It wasn't bad but it never grabbed my attention either.

David Waller

Bruh, you think you're expressing some incisive idea, but it's actually vapid and incoherent. All you've done is childishly dig your heels in and shift goalposts after each time I defend my assertions. For all your talk about my conflating things, you seem to be conflating "one dimensionality" and "adulthood" and now "character development". None of which were part of my main arguments at all. But now that you're bringing up Character development vs progression, let's look at the most basic engine for change in a character. "Character changing into X because Y thing happened to them" is the most basic fucking chain of causality for a character. X is the mix of resentment, bitterness, survivor's guilt, and loss. Y is 100 years of making tough daily decisions during wartime for the sake of ones people. Since you're struggling with this as a concept, then not only do you need more media literacy, but you also need to re-examine how myopically you're viewing people and the world. What is truly "unhinged" is being unable to empathize with the mixture of resentment, survivor's guilt, loss for one's youth, and bitterness that comes from 100 years of having to make heartbreaking decisions for the sake of your people. What's unhinged is having a character go through this, then you look at that and go '"ugh, one dimensional". As I stated before-- No one would look at Katara's feelings toward Hakoda in s3.e1 as one dimensional. Multiply that for 100 years and you get Bumi. What's unhinged is that you think that's one dimensional.

hurryupmode

You know it’s serious when Michelle has no bangs

GentleCrank

You guys scared me!!! lol It happens.. Thanks for being true to yourselves!

Dan Carrera

Shows pretty mid.

shootie-san

ngl I think I speak for everyone when I say we're completely fine with this lol, live action shows of an anime has to be REALLY good for it to be worth watching and ATLA ain't it.

EVO Smokey

“I’m noticing complete silence regarding my refuting your point… blah blah blah.” I’m not here to write an 1,000 word essay, you dork. And again, a character being bitter because bad things happened to them isn’t character development, it’s just a lazy attempt to make things more “grown up.” Then people like you will just conflate “he’s bitter” with “his character has depth,” and then go on unhinged rants in comment sections. Have a good one bro, this is not worth any more of my time.

Sam

so they have a collection on patreon called "hashira" that has some reactions but on their pinned post they have their website that has missing reactions from here (due to copyright issues i think) and the pinned post also has the info on the password needed to access the website content

lixo

If live action Bumi is "boring and one-dimensional" then you're only proving my point about media illiteracy. Let's put you through a 100 years of stress, and if you don't happen to come out mentally sound, I hope no one is insensitive and myopic enough to call you a One Dimensional bitter sociopath. Also who said Bumi was behaving like an adult? All I said was his behavior made sense after making painful decisions for 100 years. I'm noticing complete silence regarding my refuting your point about bitterness not being logical and therefore not making sense. And regarding Food Scraps, it's not a great leap of the imagination that Omashu isn't being attacked because of Danny Pudi's deal with the fire nation. Once the Fire Nation decides that Omashu is a lower priority target, why would they waste their forces seiging it when a 600 day siege is going on in Ba Sing Se. So some semblance of normalcy returns to Omashu except for reactionaries like Jet, and now Aang comes waltzing in. He's not murder-suiciding! Aang can't hold up both pieces of ceiling. He wants Aang to have the fortitude to let him die. It's an echo of his future decision he'll need to make about Ozai. It's the trolley problem. Aang gets through it by relying on his friends, getting help from Sokka and Katara. That's Aang's solution. Bumi didn't have that.

hurryupmode

Its a 7 for me. Not much action in it, but if your into like schemes than its pretty good.

101mavrik

Nothing will compare to the animated version(I actually rewatched it this past week) and from what I am reading, I can understand why the creators stepped away from this project. I had planned on watching it myself but not sure now. Good luck with the wedding planning and don’t ever feel bad for taking some extra time for yourselves.

LivvyB

I’m cool with this , I only watch the fire anime reactions from yall but yall be picking dirt animes to add. For like real anime fans yall don’t react to black clover , SAO , TOKYO GHoUL , code geass , bunch of other fan favorite S TIER anime’s you guys don’t even poll them lol. I’m only here for naruto and a couple others and I love yall reaction and chemistry. But the new anime selections gotta be better that’s just my opinion fam! I rock with you guys though.

Bigfishblanco

People don’t like the live action version because it turns Bumi into a boring, one-dimensional character. His one and only defining quality is bitterness. There’s nothing else there. It’s just a lazy way to pass things off as “adult” to people who just assume that being jaded means things are smart & realistic. And his gripes about food scraps are completely unbelievable in the context of the show because he’s having gigantic feasts on camera during the episode and Omashu looks pretty okay other than a single burned building. All in, they just turned Bumi into a boring, bitter sociopath who tries to murder-suicide a 10-year old for no discernible reason. That’s not an improvement, my guy.

Sam

How is it "mental gymnastics" for me to say "being a king for 100 years of wartime is hard and changes a person"? It's a pretty obvious outcome. The food scraps decision is literally a line spoken by Bumi during the show. "Being mad at Aang makes no sense" but season 3 episode 1 Katara being mad at Hakoda does? If psychology was "logical" then we could reason our way out of cognitive distortion and mental illness. therapy wouldn't be necessary. This isn't a question of logic. It's about empathy for a character and being able to understand resentment. Imagine the way Katara feels in Season 3 episode 1, multiplied by a 100 years and you get Bumi. What do you mean "all the Trials?" He fights him to gauge his determination almost right away. Bumi is jaded and ready to die when the ceiling debris cracks over him and he resigns himself to death, because he had to get through the last 100 years alone. Aang is now barely holding up both chunks of ceiling. In this predicament is a microcosm of all the decisions he had to make. The line about food scraps he said literally minutes ago. The episode spells it out. But people are mad that his character is more real and not a one-dimensional trope.

hurryupmode

You guys should change it up as far as genre in anime. Watch rom coms and slice of life animes to take a break from all these shonen/isekai action animes. Nothing against them, but I feel like you guys will eventually see a pattern in those types of animes and get bored or not be surprise of the outcome of some episodes/scenes. I hope you guys don't take it like I won't watch your reactions. I will watch every reaction regardless of the type of anime. Just remember anime is known for variety

Eddi3 Th3 H3ad

Scale of 1-10 what would you give it? I’m looking for some new shows lol

Sam

Lmfao it’s not that deep. You’re just doing mental gymnastics to justify terrible writing. His entire character arc of being mad at Aang makes no logical sense, since in the live action Aang DIDN’T run away lol. And he had no leverage over Aang either so he had no real reason to do all the trials. Not to mention they killed the nuanced teaching moments he had with Aang in favor of a one-track, bitter old man act. I’m not bitter or pissed off. It’s just a mediocre-at-best show. You… on the other hand are doing a great job of coming off as a jerk

Sam

It is what it is -Monk gyatso

Malik Ford

Totally get it, good for you guys! Will still be rooting for you always

Diego Rodrigo Duque Soto

Thanks for proving my point. If a show is aiming to show the effects of wartime, then Bumi would not be a cartoon caricature. Someone who survived 100 years of wartime? Every single day being forced to make decisions like "do we feed the food scraps to the orphanage or the soldiers". Bumi can't rely on Aang, who's disappeared. He's on his own. The war lasts much longer than it needed to. During this time he slowly goes insane. Then this woefully unprepared Avatar comes back after 100 years. No shit he'd be bitter and pissed off.

hurryupmode

I haven't even watched it and I know its incomprable to the show just like the original movie they tried but the epicness cannot be recreated

MARMAR

Classroom of the Elite is elite you guys should give it a try

Jeremy

I mean im the biggest Atla fan i watched it when i first dropped in the early 2000s and even im struggling to watch this new live action.

LegendarySuperSaiyan

Yeah as a fan myself who has watched the animated series like 119 times I can say its bad when a high budget Netflix original series from 2024 fails to compete with a animated version of the show from 20 years ago, I just felt like emotion and story was missing.

Dannert

Off the topic but I joined the patreom not so long ago mostly for hxh and slime, but where do I find your full demon slayer reactions

ShoKerJD

Oh! And good luck! I know planning for a wedding (esp in another country) can be stressss

Katrina Dy

I respect it fam no worries will support you no matter what <3

Kaylee Anderson

Totally understand the drop. Ya'll are crazy busy and like you said you're not only working on your wedding but also pre recording content to fill that month. Thanks for the update, this saves me another hour of rewatching it over with other reactors I also follow, so this helps with freeing up my time too lol.

Randall

I respect the decision!

mamimumemo

They won't be replacing the show. Big reason they dropped it was due to too busy schedule (mod)

klub

They wont be replacing it guys they're wayyyy to busy r n as they said.

Yumaaa

Don’t call people “media illiterate” and then a sentence later talk about Bumi being more “realistic” and “fleshed out” lmfao

Sam

I respect your decision. Thanks for being honest.

Merfhew

Or it's just coming off the schedule no replacement since y'all are super busy right now?

Christine Copeland aka Christine's Culinary Quest

So should we expect another poll, or will the spot in the upload schedule get replaced with the show michelle wanted in the last poll or one of the uupcoming new seasons of a previous show or....?

Christine Copeland aka Christine's Culinary Quest

Watch full metal alchemist brotherhood!!!

Rony

Totally down and respect your decision! wondering if you'll replace this with a new one?

Katrina Dy

Well damn i kept checking for the upload bc i wanted to see ur reaction for episode 2 and saw this 🤦🏻‍♀️ oh well

britney

It was decent. It's not fuckin horrible like some commenters with unrealistic expectations and media illiteracy issues claim, but it does have some flaws regarding exposition/info dumping and telling not showing in the beginning. Some shit was hype as fuck though, like Kyoshi kicking ass and taking names. And some thoughtful, more realistic writing. like for Bumi, who is more fleshed out here. It's a 7/10. Still enjoyable, as far as adaptations of Book 1: Water go. For comparison I gave OPLA 8/10 . But yeah it's not critical to react to. Just watch it on your own time.

hurryupmode

understandable. jumping on the bandwagon to say y’all should react to cyberpunk edgerunners

Vinnie

Completely understand I saw ep1 and immediately was like I’ve seen enough.

Buffy

I’m not worried about kyoshi

Ahkenaton Furdge

It's a tough watch. It felt like chore instead of entertainment. And that's due to way more aspects of the show than just the liberties it took

Lexi Browning

watch ep 2 trust

Cold_Cyber

Yeah the show was trash. If you want a good live action show to replace it, check out Shogun. That show is amazing so far.

Sam

I saw it coming, im surprised more people aren’t doing it honestly, from a huge lover of the anime im not even wasting my time watching the love action, i was excited up until the original writers of the show abandoned ship. I could go on and on on how i dont like it, but i believe you guys are doing the right choice. You are putting alott of content, and may get burned out on doing something you love.

Bernie 999

I would be lying if I said im not sad BUT DAMNNNNNNN ive typed so many comments i need to stop

Cold_Cyber

I've been pretty much in line with your thoughts having finished it. It's not great but not bad either. Left kind of disappointed that they didn't do better

Raden

Food Wars / Tokyo Ghoul / Code Geass join peak 🙏🏾

vlone flex

Tbh as someone whose seen ATLA atleast ten times, don’t bother it’s not anything crazy your missing out, imo go straight into TLOK it’s amazing. (After ATLA) of course.

Evelio Solache

I’m glad you guys are this selective. Much better to drop a show than give half interested reactions (not saying you guys do that at all). Also I don’t think it’s a big deal if you don’t continue a show after trying one episode. If it was mid season or something then it would be cool to acknowledge it like this, but honestly I’d rather have you guys pick up and drop more shows than sticking through with shows you don’t really care for.

Jake Turner

i was just watching your one piece reaction just now and i saw that announcement at the same time and my heart was like thump (baka) hahaha for a second i thought is one piece canceled... but i am still happy!

JustRojo

I hope u guys can react to it after the cartoon tbh before starting korra :/

Cold_Cyber

Hey hope you guys are taken it easy , take care don’t over do it. And maybe since you drop a show now you can watch “My Dress Up Darling”?

Paulo

Shogun on Hulu. Best show I’ve ever seen. Please react to it

Jordan Greenan

Day 1 petition to react to Cyberpunk Edgerunners!

Bruce

Solid decision. Thanks for walking us through your thought process... wait! Does this mean you're not continuing with Spy x Family?!

chaosdreamer

Its ur choice at the end of course but I'm really sad about it I was really curious of ur reactions :(

Cold_Cyber

I fell asleep on episode 1, woke up on episode 4 and just kept watching. Didn’t even go back😂

Ahkenaton Furdge

Understandable

Mirhwach

knew what it was before watching it, its definitely good that you guys are transparent like this

gdnsx

That sucks

myka

Fr

_luhjr1n

I personally don't like the live action but I also respect your guys' decision either way.

MonarchXIII

Smartest reactors, thank you for being honest. It’s decent but not what most fans honestly wanted and it’s not really needed. Do what you guys do and keep being awesome :)

Drakuse

I was so curious of ep 2 reaction its my fav episode of the live action series :(

Cold_Cyber

I watched through the intro and first scene before I dropped it, lol

Jake Turner

Just call it a spade and say “ that shit was mid “ 😭 WE UNDERSTAND
