Gosh the one pace version is shit, it probaly helps when it gets to fishman island but in these episodes it cut so much you lose the feel of the scenes. Everything seems like a flashback.

Naw the original is the way to go until you get past the 500's straight up. Personally I think the original anime is very watchable throughout it's entire run, but I would admit some arcs in the 2nd half of the series are better on One Pace. But no, anything Marine Ford and earlier should be experienced via the original anime imo.

So glad you guys are reacting to One Piece. I got your patreon just for this. So about your comment about this being a flashback from 312. That's true but it's actually a reanimated flashback. Originally, this flashback is shown in episode 4 of the anime. There are some minor differences in this version of the flashback compared to when they first animated in episode 4. Most of these difference were actually to make it match the manga better in the "newer" version. Like back in episode 4 they cut the first scene where Luffy stabs himself because they thought that would be too graphic for a kid's anime. Also in this reanimated version they show Luffy eating the devil fruit while the confrontation is happening in the bar (as you noticed during the episode) but in the original anime version he doesn't eat the fruit until after the bandits leave the bar. You'll see as you go on that flashbacks from early one piece are reanimated a few times just because how long the series is. For some people who were watching the anime back when episode 312 was new, they hadn't seen that flashback in several years so it's kinda like a refresher.

Pardon the rant, but I think its a misunderstanding to compare the Live Action to the Anime which is the source material for the most part (outside of manga), so you'll probably see a lot of characters you wouldn't normally that still impact the show just in smaller ways. It's my personal opinion the animated show's true nature thrives in an animated medium that allows them to accentuate the characters and the character design, even if the live action was well executed. The live action series is condensing the story to be more digestible for a wider audience while the anime is a more goofy and drawn out series that lets the story breath (Thats kinda why they made one pace; Because the actual pacing of O.P. sometimes lets the wind out of the sails, so to speak [It's my personal belief Toei is to blame for this artifical expansion seeing as prolonged popularity = prolonged profits, but I digress]). P.S. Luffy is supposed to be brazillian and it think its cool you'll be able to experience these characters in a new light

Hi abolish, I understand that you are frustrated with how Ron and Michelle process information about a show, but lets refrain from calling them dumb, because they aren't. Secondly, they are NOT trying to cash grab, they are watching Naruto (4 episodes a week), which is another long show, and i think about 4 or 5 other shows as well. They cannot just put all their effort into this ONE show. It may have been easier for YOU and others to have them do more than 4 episodes a week but they have other shows that they are watching and they still have more to add. Focusing on one show will more than likely have people unsub to their patreon bc other shows arent being watched. I think it's around 13 specials. From what I remember, most of them are basically recaps of earlier arcs/sagas with better animation and maybe a few extra scenes. If you like a certain arc you might wanna check if there's a short special about it. There are also some funny short ones like luffy having a dream about the crew being a football team

For example I see a lot of people complaining about One Pace not having any Nami scenes, but that's because One Pace goes in the order of events the manga does, at which point that's like complaining the manga did it wrong. I made a patreon account and subscribed purely to tell you this. As a one piece fan of 7 years, someone who has watched all of the anime WITHOUT One Pace, rewatched all of it it WITH One Pace, and has read most (atleast 60%) of the manga, PLEASE do not listen to anyone who tries to lie to you and say One Pace cuts cannon content. It does not. One Piece fans online have this unhealthy mob mentality to hold it up as the greatest piece of media without a single flaw, and this is something I've noticed with the influx of fans who started during/post covid. I promise you One Pace is without a shadow of a doubt the best way to watch the anime and in my opinion once you get to around ep300 it's the only way to watch it from then on. Please don't be deceived by honestly borderline delusional fans, One Pace is a fine and perfect way to watch the anime and in my opinion it's the best way by a significant margin. It may not be necessary until ep 250-300ish but I'd still recommend it, and after that I believe it's the significantly best option

Just wanna say how much I respect you guys deciding to go with the original anime after a few episodes. One Pace follows the manga which has a different order for certain scenes early on, for example the shanks scene is one of the first things in the manga but the anime waits a few episodes to exposit Luffy's backstory. The manga and anime sync up more later which is why starting with one pace can be a bit confusing for regular anime watchers. They also cut out most things that aren't directly tied to the manga, which in some cases leaves a lot to be desired. The anime makes very useful contributions when it comes to portraying things clearly and explicitly. Good luck on your One Piece adventure, cant wait to see more!

What I don't think yall ready for is the difference in event order that's in portrayed in the Live-action that translates to the anime. The LA could've talked about things that WE didn't find out for many many many episodes. AnD there are things WE STILL ( current weekly watchers and Manga readers) don't have answers for that have yet to be dropped or revealed. Pls read what I said...One Pace episodes are sometimes 40 minutes long & if they react to 4 One Pace episodes a week, that can sometimes be the equivalent of 8 (!) episodes. The 367 vs 1075 comparison just doesn't work. Especially when One Pace doesn't even have episodes for all arcs yet?? Additionally, 91 of those 1075 episodes are anime filler ones The time saved by watching One Pace is just not worth it considering all the downsides that come with it (with the exception of literally 2 arcs, that are both at least 600 eps away)

the 2 years estimate for One Pace is a wrong one people often make since many folks just multiply the amount of One Pace episode with 20 or 24, when in fact the episodes aren't always ~23 mins long but often are 30+mins. It's more of a 4 vs 6 year difference & if they switch over to One Pace for 2 particular much later in the story it will be 4 vs 5

I've never watched One Pace so I'm gonna go in with an open mind and hope for the best. A little sad about it but eh no biggie :) Oh looks like One Pace uses some of the HD special stuff. I prefer how the original looks but oh well Ok it grew on me. Pretty darn good opening from One Pace. I can't wait for you guys to see Arlong Park in the anime. They did a great job with it in the LA but I think it is soo much better here.

Honestly I see One Pace as a speed running method for those who just want to catch up, or hate padded episodes. In my honest opinion I try to recommend the regular version to people because I want them to try and get hooked and enjoy the series since it won't be that intimidating if you enjoy the series to get over the amount of episodes it has, it's supposed to be a journey not something that should be rushed. Though regular One Piece episodes are padded to hell like all your typical shounen jump animes, if it really gets on your nerves then sure go ahead and watch One Pace but I stand by regular version over One Pace for people getting into it just to feel it out.

Part of me wish they got to reacting Bleach before Bleach TYBW ends so they can watch the end of Bleach anime with everyone. With the cours being 1 year apart. Bleach will end in mid/late 2025. Yeah Shanks first mate Ben Beckman casting and screen time fell short in the Live Action. For me even Shanks in the Live Action had a missing factor and vibe. Overall, Live Action Shanks was still good, not going to complain. Live Action Coby was casted to be taller than the manga for a reason. You guys will find out only later in the episodes 300+. Like many explained, the Live Action did leave out some details and made some changes to the storyline and set due to production, CG, budget and other factors. They did keep the key scenes and had to pass Oda's approval. Hope you guys don't get confuse when some scenes weren't or different in the Live Action since you guys started with the Live Action. So excited you guys are finally watching the GOAT anime! This is my TGIF!!!❤️

Live action only follows a little of manga, I don't believe anyone saying its following the manga. They literally changed the whole story in some episodes. While the anime is also changing some order and cut/add some scenes as well but still following the original story. To apply 1-1 anything from manga would be impossible anyway, because animation and live action have their own way to tell the story. So I hope you guys won't focus too much on what happened on live action when watching the anime, then you'll get very distracted and not following the actual story. This is the reason why I wish people watch anime first (manga first is always better but anyway), because they'll definitely get distracted than people who watch anime first then live action, because nobody will compare from anime to live action story wise (they only compare characters), it's a whole different and packed story anyway.

Super happy that you decided to go with the anime and not one pace, and also that you are starting from the start and not from where the live action left off. One piece is very slow even the author mentioned that he would write the start a lot differently if he re-wrote it today (faster pace). I have personally re-watched one piece multiple times and never knew about one pace until you guys mentioned it but judging from these 2 first episodes, i am not a fan, simply because it mixes newer with older and cuts out things they consider useless information but in my opinion it is things that make it fun. Like in Ep 1 you would actually see another of the strawhats future members (not that you would know) but as the show goes on it is nice to piece these things together on your own. Looking forward to this journey, start is gonna be very slow but well worth it in the end!

They revealed how luffy got the devil fruit a lot different in this episode compared to the original reveal. I think it’s on episode 4 and it might be worth at least rewatching that scene. In my opinion the (original) reveal not episode 312 is much better

The live action is more bloody than the anime believe it or not. The live action did show the bandit get shot in the head as well during the Luffy and Shanks flashback. In regards to the cool guy from the Shanks flashback he was a big part of the live action they just made him Chubby and a little older, if you go back im sure you will notice him. Lastly the fat guy in the stripped green is NOT Ussops father, Ussops father is the guy with the bandana that has "Yassop" written on it, he is skinny and looks like Ussop without the long nose.

Episode 4 of the anime adapts Chapter 1? One Pace just chose to include the remade version of ep4 from the TV special "Episodes of East Blue" for its 1st episode instead since it's higher quality. The only thing taken from ep312 is the opening since One Pace Episode 1 played the orchestral version of OP1

Notes: You're correct. In the OG anime the flashback occurs in episode 4. Ep 312 was a special episode that reanimated the first chapter of the manga. Since One Pace is trying to follow the manga shot for shot, they used it for their episode 1. By the way, the Mayor of Windmill Village is named WOOP SLAP, lmao Shank's first mate is named Benn Beckman. He was in the Live Action, but had less of a presence since Shanks is the main figure in Luffy's flashback. When Oda was first thinking about his pirate manga back in his highschool days, he decided that, as a creative exercise, he would give his main character a seemingly useless, nerfed ability like a body made of rubber, so that he would have to find new and interesting ways for Luffy to use it. It was a deliberate choice to not use his abilities like Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic.

1. Berries is the correct name for the money. Belly is just a mistranslation. 2. As you can gather Shanks does not have a DF as he was obviously swimming in the ocean. 3. Oda (the author) purposely gave Luffy a lame/goofy power to demonstrate how he overcomes the seemingly useless nature of his abilities by sheer imagination and creativity alone. Also be prepared for some absolutely abysmal pacing at times, in my opinion thats the biggest thing One Piece suffers from.

Also another cool thing for the anime watchers in the live action is that the first opening of the show, which was played at the end of 312, was made as an orchestral version in the LA when they set for the grand line. For someone who started with the LA, it obviously won't have an impact but it hit hard for me who started OP like 15 years ago. The first op has become so iconic that in the soccer world cup 2018 between Senegal and Japan, the whole stadium was singing it, including the Senegal supporters. The first OP is as legendary as the Pokemon theme

If they skip fillers it should be short plus bleach has less episodes than either one piece or naruto, I admit the battles between the weaker arrancars aren't my fav like from 145 to 199 with alot skipped due to filler. I think most patrons could handle it easier with attention span one piece is to long.

Keep in mind that while the live action did follow pretty 1 to 1 the manga/anime, some scenes were changed and some scenes that were in the live action, actually happen later in the manga. So don't get confused if some things are slightly "different", as the live action made some changes to the manga, not the other way around. So basically you shouldn't follow the live action as a guide for things to happen in the anime
