You’re not saying much by saying that. I don’t think it has to with genetics, if that was the case, the twins in that volcano episode would both be benders since they are identical twins. It’s kinda obvious that it has nothing to do genetics.

After all, the avatar, master of all 4 elements can be born in all 4 nation and is the bridge between man and spirits according to episode 7. So if genetics were the only factor to bending abilities, how could the avatar master all 4 elements from all 4 nations. I personally believe that the bending energy exist outside of simple genetics, but aren't unrelated in terms of inheritance.

Has long as the parents have certain genes, they can pass on traits to their children, but it's not 100%. Bending is just another traits. You may or may not inherit the powers. On that note, even identical twins can have differences in their DNA.
