The entire dialogue between the witches and Subaru carries such a heavy but life-affirming message. Subaru finding himself in the position of not being suicidal, but having to use his death to keep those around him alive, it really would put those thoughts in your head of “the only thing I can do for the people I like is die for them over and over” and the fact that they can’t ever know makes it worse. And it’s not that the people around him don’t express their gratitude towards him, it’s just that he doesn’t really believe them or accept it. Him having to be told to love himself more and that there are people that grieve his absence is a message that a lot of people need to hear. It was certainly something I needed to hear when I started watching this show.

You should have noticed that viewpoint never changes from what Subaru knows, there is only one situation that happens where it's not his viewpoint later in this season. So what you don't understand so doesn't Subaru at the moment.

It's almost a critique of the weeb and neet culture of Japan, which has young men idolizing and fetishizing the "perfect anime waifu". Emilia embodies the anime waifu trope in every way, on the surface, but on a deeper level, she is very human and very flawed. Subaru's relationship with her, especially in this season, is about challenging these ideas.

Of all the light novel content to be cut so far (based on what I've seen in YouTube videos that discuss changes to the anime), this was easily the most important piece of information that didn't make it into the S2 anime. I genuinely don't know why they cut this information out, but I have to assume the anime will bring it up later. Long story short, I don't think we should tell them, as it feels like it could be a potential spoiler. I appreciate that you waited and asked instead of just explaining what happened in the light novel. Thank you for playing it safe. :)

The light novel has some more context behind the witch of envy encounter that may add more to her theory or take away but I dont know your guys rule on technically light novel/manga content that was skipped over in the anime.
