That's a weird misconception. Assuming every Isekai is about a video game. This sure ain't it. Is just another parallel world diferent then his world but another world nonetheless. Roswall and all the people are real people. It has nothing to do with self aware or npcs. Just cuz Subaru was joking when Naming Beatrice his first npc doesn't mean they are actually npcs. Not all Isekai's are about video games.

2023-07-28 13:50:28 +0000 UTCHey guys so i wanted to say something, when i was watching i felt the need to look for this, but, it can be considered a spoiler, so, watch out, and, at the same time some of this was already talked in the show. Basically, there is the witch factor, authorities come from this entity and each authority contain one "unique power", also, are based on a sin, authority of sloth and so on, in the past were the witches but now are the archbishop. I just wanted to share to you this, it maybe little information but i think it helps to understand the world of re zero, there is a lot going on. And theory time, so by going to this logic some believe that subaru is the archbishop of envy, because of his return by death, but this maybe not true at all, we will see O_o.

And knowing Garf is hard to fight against he uses Ram`s body as his opportunity to kill him. So they can talk alone, knowing Subaru will respawn.

2023-07-28 10:59:03 +0000 UTCI would suggest to take off the video game mentality, these dark episodes are supposed to hurt the viewer too in the sense if they have any sympathy to Subaru what he goes through in every lifetimes. His past lives where he dies from bunnies or whatever did happen to him, but in a videogame you ignore everything that happened after you hit that restart/load button. It's emotional baggage he has to carry moving forward. Some of the things happening anime leaves you just vague idea, like Emilia basically was trying the trial until she went insane. You see Beatrice's Tome of Wisdom, but like she said it stopped years ago already why there is so much empty pages, but clearly for Roswall it still is working. In that episode where the darkness fully consumes everything from Witch of Envy, you can see him holding that book while saying "Try your best next time Subaru" now this episode answers little bit why he was behaving like that.

2023-07-28 10:02:22 +0000 UTCSo to answer your question if it's right to view it that way, in my opinion, I think one mistake a lot of viewers have is viewing it like a video game. It is true that the restarts are similar to a video game. However, it would be hard to actually live through this in reality and view it as such without losing your humanity. Even as a viewer, it becomes easier to deal with deaths in the show, especially Subarus when you view it through the lens of "he can always restart". The reason it's a flawed way of viewing it is that for one thing, Dying isn't an easy thing for Subaru to go through it's painful and a terrible experience each time, unlike a video game. Another reason is if Subaru were to view it in the same way he would likely become cold and heartless because why does anyone's life matter in the present when he can always end it and go back? Fun Fact; There are a few side stories the author wrote called Pride IF, Greed IF, Sloth IF, etc. Each one was released on April Fools Day (Subaru's Birthday) every year for a time. These are not likely to ever have Anime showings. They are all divergent timeline side stories of different choices Subaru could have made and each stories differing choice resembles the Sin they are named after. For example, the Pride IF story is a story of if in the first few episodes, he never asked for Reinhardt's help and he was basically stuck in his first life for nearly a hundred deaths. And there is another one called Rem IF or (Sloth IF) where he was able to convince Rem to run away together and they had a family together. In fact, when the Archbishop of Gluttony "eats" Rem's name there is a flash of an image from that story of her with Subaru, her, and their kids. I wouldn't read into any of the others because they could spoil future events.

He wants subaru to become like him in the sense of will do anything to accomplish his goals. Combined with the ability to reset. He would be unstoppable.

2023-07-28 05:02:05 +0000 UTCOne of you asked why Roswaal killed Ram and Garfiel. This was addressed in the episode, but there were a LOT of moving pieces. Roswaal wanted to have a chat with Subaru, but he knew Garfiel wouldn't let that happen (dude was rightfully pissed about the snow falling in Sanctuary). In terms of physical strength, Garfiel was the strongest person in the room, so he could have taken down the injured Roswaal. An opportunity to eliminate Garfiel's interruptions appeared when Ram got involved, so Roswaal used it to his advantage. If there had been a quick and easy way to dispose of Garfiel without killing Ram, I'm sure Roswaal would have done that instead.

He doesn’t know Subaru has to die to reset, which is why he was kicking Subaru (to try and make him reset) Also the reason Emilia became insane was because she was isolated and she tried to do the trial over and over again until it basically broke her mind

2023-07-28 00:00:09 +0000 UTCIf I remember correctly roswall's book tells him the future in that timeline, if he dies in the next timeline its a different roswall he knows about subaru because of the book, he has known about subaru power since very early, Beatrice doesnt know about subaru's power, her book/gospel is incomplete it doesnt tell her the future.
