2023-07-26 19:38:51 +0000 UTCIf you guys are curious, the backstory on Piltover's "Progress Day" is pretty interesting, not sure if they are going to cover this on a later season, so if anyone thinks that's a spoiler, don't keep reading. A long time ago, when there was no cars or flying ships, there was a modest nation named "Zaun", built on a narrow piece of land connecting two large continents. Since the main form of transporation back then was through water, this narrow piece of land separating both sides of these continents body of water made certain routes of commerce extremely expensive for everyone involved. So, the people of Zaun had an ideia to make the city thrive, they carefully planned a series of explosions to open a hole next to their city, to open a canal and enable ships to move freely between both sides of the continents (as long as they paid taxes to pass ships through). After years of planning and working, they activated the planned explosions, but this triggered an unplanned series of earthquakes, which leveled most of the city, and killed a lot of people in the process. To make things worse, these earthquakes released a series of harmful gases that infected the lower sections of the city. Nevertheless, the hole was opened as intended, it paid off big time, as city became the owner of the most efficient merchant route in the entire world. Considering the destruction of their former city, the wealthy citizens decided to build a new city around the canal. They named this new city as "Piltover". As for those who didn't have the money to follow the wealthier class, they were left behind on the wreckage of the old city, which was eventually named "Undercity". Because of the revolutionary work that was the creation of this canal, the day of it's birth it's celebrated to this day as "Progress Day".
