Between recap episodes and filler arcs, they could easily skim off a good 50+ episodes. On top of that, most new episodes from the past 10+ years have had anywhere from 3 to 6 minutes worth of recap following the 2.5 minute opening song, which lessens the amount of time they'd be watching. Now, I'm not saying that One Piece is a short anime, because it absolutely isn't. However, you made it sound far more overwhelming and time-consuming than it actually is. As for whether they should react to One Piece, I have no strong opinion. It's a great series, but the anime's pacing has dragged the source material down. That doesn't mean it's a bad show, but surely there are better options for reactions right now.

That's why I suggested to watch their own pace rather than weekly. They can watch a few episodes and see where it goes; if they like it they can continue if not, just drop it.

If they watch shows from the same author back-to-back, wouldn't that just bring up comparisons instead of enjoying a show based on its own laurels? The legend greats (Fullmetal brotherhood, HxH, Parasyte, etc.) are getting pushed further and further back and won't have the same effect/reaction as they would if these were incorporated more early on as it should be (to create a more balanced and enjoyable experience--for both michele and ron AND viewers.
