Real Specs v1.0
Unique Grand Tourer
First shown at the 1989 Frankfurt Auto Show, the BMW 8 Series (E31) was the first and only BMW Coupe to be powered by a 12-cylinder engine!
BMW 850i emerged as a prominent grand tourer (GT) and stood proudly as the flagship model in BMW's range.
On the open road, the BMW 850i truly came alive. Its refined suspension system and precise handling characteristics provided a smooth and composed ride, even at high speeds. The grand tourer effortlessly devoured miles, making long journeys a joy rather than a chore. Whether cruising along winding coastal roads or traversing vast stretches of highway, the 850i's balance between comfort and performance was truly exceptional.
“Auto Bild” magazine commented: “It needs to be experienced to be believed, preferably through high-speed corners on the motorway: bumps, expansion joints – shocks that are sure to trigger sudden jolts of adrenaline in other cars – leave the 850i driver totally unruffled.”
However, it is important to note that the 850i was never intended to be a hardcore track machine or an all-out supercar. While it possessed impressive performance figures, its true essence lay in its ability to blend power, comfort, and driving pleasure into a single, cohesive package.

One among rivals
In the debut of the 90s, the BMW 850i emerged as a competent alternative to the newly launched Porsche 928 GT, presenting buyers with exciting alternatives in the grand tourer segment.
When comparing the BMW 850i and its rival, the Porsche 928 GT, both of which were introduced in 1989, it becomes evident that the BMW faced a disadvantage in terms of power and weight. These factors made it challenging for the 850i to compete toe to toe with the Porsche on equal footing.
In the early 1990s, the BMW 850i and the Porsche 928 GT faced a formidable challenger in the form of the 1991 Corvette Coupe. While the Corvette Coupe may have lacked some of the ride quality and comfort found in its European counterparts, it more than compensated with its impressive performance. Despite its significant price difference, the Corvette, with its lowest weight, emerged as a strong contender and, maybe, a potential winner among its rivals on the track.
The BMW 850i might not be the fastest car on the track, nor the most nimble in tight corners, but it boasts a feature that sets it apart from the crowd—the mighty V12 engine.
The 850i proudly houses a twelve-cylinder powerhouse under its hood. For car enthusiasts, this alone is enough to make their hearts race!

My Work
Based on an existing mod of a 1995 BMW 850 CSI, I adapted the 3D with the necessary changes to match the original BMW 850i from the early 90s, the one that marks the debut of the first generation of the 8 series.
In addition, I tried to improve several visual aspects and animations, to increase the sensation of realism and immersion, to which the adjustment of the sound effects also contributed.
Most importantly, I've dedicated a good portion of my work to fine-tuning the specs, so that the dynamic behavior of this model can be as close as I can get to what the real model will be, taking into account what I've read and heard from various reviews and data, available online.
As always, I try to use a common standard between the various mods I make, so that they are comparable in their performance, something that is difficult to happen when we compare mods from different authors, given that the transfer criteria from the manufacturers' specifications to the values of the data files, are not exactly the same or consistent.
In the description of this mod you can find a brief historical information, and the main specifications of the manufacturer, as well as, some real test data, and even some comparative data of the values that I obtained in my tests on Assetto Corsa.
