AMS2 development update

Time to make some considerations, next update is focusing on improving performance and give a better real life broadcast feeling but this comes at a cost. Unfortunately it is not possible to create an Omni comprehensive preaet that will work in any conditions, and this is due to the limitations of the game itself. You can consider the vanilla graphic as what a ppfilter does on Assetto Corsa. You pick a ppfilter of your liking and it is going to represent various scenarios in the way the creator has set the script. In Automobilista it works exactly the same, but the ppfilter is set by the developers of the game. The game has a good base graphic to start with but it is limited by the look the developers chose to represent. Now real life broadcasts have per se a multitude of filters depending on the camera shooting the action, obviously each track has a different look and vibe all affected by weather, time of day, sun position and clouds. I'll give you some example and take the Monaco 2024 GP that was held end of may on sunny clear/light clouds weather at around 2pm local time.

In this shot you can see that the overall look seems a bit coldish with hints of violet and has a low contrast

In this shot the tint is yellowish, has a stronger contrast a slightly more saturation that you can see of the yellow pirelli sponsor signs

In this shot the tint becomes reddish the cars have an high saturation but the environment is desaturated and greyed out

This shot is similar to the first one but the environment has more contrast and has a slight yellow tint

In this shot there is the most difficult thing to recreate. The Sunlight hit powerfully the cars and the track surface, everything loose saturation, looks graysh with a mix of yellow tint on the environment and violet on the cars

Now all I can do when I try to create a reshade preset is to focus on a single scenario. That scenario will look realistic but as soon as camera change, it may look dull or completely off or too saturated or too contrasty and viceversa. Probably the best thing to so is to create a sort of average filter, something that gives a good feeling of realism overall that in return doesn't represent any given scenarios but can look credible and realistic enough to fool you thinking you are following a irl broadcast

I decided that best option is to make an average that work in the majority of the cases, here for example

IRL the value of the exposure as I explained is almost impossible to recreate as the developers didn't consider such a thing, in the game is much less pronounced. But if you look at the Ferrari color ot match almost 100%. New version is almost ready you gonna be stunned by the final result
