Here's some bonus content for all you Chris fans...

I want to share some text conversations between Anna and Chris from the past that didn't make it into the script of APM.  It's nothing crazy, but it just shows how their relationship evolved.

As explained in “A Perfect Marriage,” Anna and Chris started off with a frosty relationship. It got pretty bad between them after Chris cheated on Anna’s friend, Jen, which led to a cold war for over a year, during which time David and Anna got engaged, much to Chris’s surprise. There was certainly no texting going on between Chris and Anna. It culminated with an altercation at Anna’s 25th birthday party, just weeks before David and Anna’s wedding. Anna was so upset with Chris that she told him to leave her party. David’s father, Darren, was witness to it.

The following texting transcript between Chris and Anna is from the day after that party:

(Chris) Hey, it’s Chris. I don’t understand why you got so mad last night. Can we talk about it?

(Anna) No, I don’t want to talk about it. Your behavior was unacceptable.

(Chris) Because I hit on your cousin? That’s stupid. I have every right to do that.

(Anna) She’s not that type of girl. Just stay away from her. She’s only here visiting me for three days.

(Chris) Are you jealous I was giving her attention and not you?

(Anna) LOL. You’re delusional.

(Anna) I was protecting her from you. I know you’re only looking for one thing.

(Anna) She’s a nice girl. Leave her alone.

(Chris) She’s an adult. You have no right to tell her what to do.

(Anna) I have every right to tell her when someone’s an asshole!

(Chris) Wow, tell me how you really feel about me.

(Chris) You’re just still mad about Jen.

(Anna) Of course I’m still mad.

(Anna) I did you a favor setting you up, and you threw it back in my face. It’s insulting.

(Anna ) I won’t make the same mistake with my cousin.

(Chris) Don’t you believe in second chances? :)

(Anna) You’re on like your fifth chance.

(Anna) I have to tolerate you since you’re David’s friend, but that’s where it ends.

(Anna) You’re so disrespectful to women and clueless on what women really want.

(Anna ) You need an overhaul of your behavior, I’m sorry to say.

(Chris) You don’t know shit. You’re a private school snob and a prude.

(Chris) I thought David found a winner, but maybe I was wrong?

(Chris) I’m not changing who I am, so deal with it.

(Anna) I’m done with this conversation. Goodbye.

Chris and Anna not getting along was upsetting for David, but David was determined to have a wonderful wedding that included his bride and his best man getting along. He pleaded with Anna to forgive Chris and move past their issues. Cooler heads prevailed, and the night before the wedding, Anna initiated a sit-down with Chris. They had a long talk to work out their differences. Surprisingly, it went really well, and Anna decided to give him a clean slate. As a result, the wedding was a resounding success.

The following is a texting transcript between Chris and Anna from the week after David and Anna’s wedding:

(Chris) Hey! I hope your honeymoon’s going great!

(Chris) I’m so happy for the both of you, and I’m so relieved we’re going to start fresh in our relationship.

(Anna) Hey!

(Anna) Sorry it’s taken so long to get back to you. Cell reception was bad. We’re on our way back.

(Anna) And yes, I feel much better after our talk. I’m glad you understand where I’m coming from.

(Chris) Absolutely. I’m glad you understand my point of view.

(Anna) Well… I don’t LIKE your point of view. LOL. But I know you won’t change, so whatever, I can deal with it. :)

(Anna) Just be a good influence on my husband! (wow I have to get used to saying husband!)

(Chris) I couldn’t teach David bad habits if I tried. He’s too good of a guy!

(Anna) Awe, I know, he’s the best!

(Anna) We’ll invite you over for dinner soon! Take care.

(Chris) Sounds great, and safe travels!

In the days that followed, Chris was persistent in texting Anna and becoming friends with her. She was uncomfortable at first, not knowing what to think about her husband’s friend suddenly texting her a lot, but Chris was on good behavior in his texts, so she just figured she was getting to know the real side of him. Anna’s the type to always respond to texts… that’s just her nature, so Chris took advantage of it and continued to text her often, knowing she was too sweet not to respond.

Anna told David about their text conversations, and David was beyond happy they were now getting along. But as Chris continued to text her almost daily, she stopped updating David on their conversations.  It soon became two friends texting each other rather than a woman texting with her husband’s friend.

Once Chris got into this friend zone with her, he began to want more and more. She was unlike any other woman he’d known, and he knew there was more to her than the good-natured, career-focused, loving wife persona she came with. He became determined to find out if she had a lusty side underneath the surface.  She’d always kept her guard up with him, so he decided he’d try to chip away at it.

The following is the end of a text exchange between them during this time that shows an example of his attempts to break through:

(Anna) I can’t believe we’ve been texting for 2 hours! I need to get to sleep.

(Chris) You’re so easy to talk to. I feel like we’ve been friends forever.

(Chris) It’s nice getting to know you better.

(Anna) Same. Your stories are… interesting, to say the least!

(Chris) Ha! You asked for it. I was just telling the truth.

(Anna) Yeah but I don’t need to know ALL the details, Christopher.

(Anna) You have no filter.

(Chris) I’m guessing David doesn’t share similar stories from his past?

(Anna) Haha. No, he was never wild like you.

(Chris) Is he still asleep? It’s crazy how early he fell asleep.

(Anna) Yes. He had a long day.

(Chris) No sex tonight then?

After several minutes without a response…

(Chris) Did I go too far?

(Anna) Lol, yes.

(Chris) I was just teasing.

(Chris) I tell you so much about my sex-life. You’re welcome to talk about yours.

(Chris) I don’t want you to feel left-out.

(Anna) That’s ok, I’ll pass.

(Anna) It was nice chatting tonight, but I need to get some zzzzz’s!

(Anna) Have fun at the game tomorrow.

(Chris) Okay, sleep well and have a good day at work.

(Chris) Let me know how that meeting you’re stressing about goes!

Weeks continued to go by with Chris and Anna texting like good friends. Anna was pretty comfortable talking to him at this point, and she had begun to open up a tad. Chris had even began flirting with her a bit like he did when they first met… but this time around she was comfortable enough with him to laugh it off. This only encouraged him more, so he began to try harder to get her to open up.

The following text transcript was from a night David was out of town on business. We pick up late in the conversation where Chris finally found some success:

(Anna) I’m going to go to sleep soon.

(Chris) When does David get back?

(Anna) Thursday.

(Chris) Does it make you nervous being alone?

(Anna) No. He takes trips from time to time, so I’m used to it.

(Chris) I can come by if you need help with anything.

(Anna) Thanks for offering, but I’m fine. My mom’s close by.

(Chris) Must suck when he’s gone… no sex.

(Anna) Roll eyes. Is sex all you think about?

(Chris) Pretty much.

(Anna) Speaking of, I’m surprised you’re not on a date right now.

(Chris) It’s not too late to pick you up and we can go somewhere.

(Anna) Lol. No way. I’m already in my pajamas.

(Chris) What kind of pajamas do you wear?

(Anna) Tonight, I’m just in a t-shirt.

(Chris) Aw man. Here I thought we were really bonding tonight.

(Anna) Goodnight, Chris.

The next night while David was still out of town, Anna and Chris had another long text exchange. Chris was careful not to scare her off by pushing too hard, but as they got late into the conversation, he again tried to test her limits. Here’s the text exchange:

(Chris) What pajamas are you wearing tonight?

(Anna) Same as last night.

(Chris) Is that what you always wear?

(Anna) No.

(Chris) …?

(Anna) What?

(Chris) You’re supposed to tell me what else you wear to bed.

(Anna) I don’t have to tell you anything!

(Chris) You’re no fun.

(Anna) Sorry!

(Chris) You were fun last night though.

(Chris) Teasing your professors? Bad girl.

(Anna) Ha.

Just as things were trending in the right direction for Chris getting Anna to open up, she found out she was pregnant the day David got back from his business trip. From that point forward, Anna’s mind immediately jumped to starting a family with her husband, and she had no time or desire to have long text exchanges with Chris. Sure, he made some attempts to have conversations with her, but Anna wasn’t having it. Chris faded way into the background. It wasn’t until a year and a half later that they struck up another long text exchange… as seen in ‘A Perfect Marriage.’
