Bungee gum possesses the properties of both rubber and gum! One really cool thing with nen is that almost every nen abilities tells you something about the character. In Hisoka's case obviously texture surprise, talks about his flimsy nature and also the magician aspect of him, bungee gum speaks of how his characters can adapt to anything in the story, just like you said he doesn't ally himself with anyone, so he can fit with anyone or anything.
