She finished removing her pants and sweater, raising her arms to remove her bra. Her heavy breasts fell in a cascade over her flat belly. Leaving the clothes as they fell over the floor, she wrapped herself in the heavy, padded purple pajamas, then wrapped herself back into the dense blankets. All that weight on her body soothed her somehow.

It had been a restless night. After all, Don wanted it to be.

Why had no one asked her about her career at the Academy? Certainly she had been there long enough and had the necessary recognition for the army's in-house magazine to be interested in her story.

But instead, they had decided to give such an important and formal space to that new spoiled little girl who didn't even know what it was like to have people under her charge. A former juvenile delinquent chemsex enthusiast whose loyalty to the glorious empire was reduced to a dirty extortion that some recruiter on duty decided to carry out, probably because he needed to fill his quota.

She had carried out a formidable mission in Cape Town, yes, no one would deny that. But it was a good deed, and that was that. That didn't mean she had to become the darling of the division. If she was so good, why didn't she stay there, or in Mumbay, or in Burma, or in Northern Rhodesia?

Lately the war was taking a course that seemed more and more distant from the way the Rapture Division was fighting. It had been three years since she had been called to arms. But she waited patiently for the time...
