I am working on a model for my next video. Blender is being used to modify Gotland to create a new character.
I am reducing the number of vertices of the model while modifying the clothing to the bare bones state, roughly resembling the character's face first. I'm going to reduce the number of vertices on the top of the head, ears, and areas with little curvature, which are hidden by the hair, and also reduce the number of vertices around the eyes and mouth to the point where I don't worry about the vertex crunch. You can see in the image below how many vertices have been reduced.
The advantages of reducing the number of vertices are simply that the model will be lighter to load, it will be easier to create shape keys to save facial expressions in advance, and the number of vertices will not be limited when loading the model into VRChat.
I have not tried VRChat yet, but I am interested in it, and I am vaguely thinking about bringing my own original character to VRChat, so I am thinking that reducing the number of vertices is important. (What I am creating now is not an original character.)
