S2 is definitely not mid, even if some of the extravagant animation from S1 was toned down. I loved it just as much as S1. A lot of criticism seems to come largely from those who only watch shonen action shows, which MT definitely is not. Multiple rewatches, and now diving into the LN has made this whole story (so far) one of my all time favorites. It has been meaningful to me in a lot of ways - some of which I can't exactly put into words. I get if the show isn't everyone's cup of tea, but the hate it gets in some corners of the internet baffles me.
I'm so happy you're enjoying MT too, and I love your reactions. Thanks for letting us watch along!

Yeah, I never really understood the hate for season 2 either. I can only assume that people saw season 1 and considered Mushoku Tensei to be an action show, but it was never about the action. It's about the characters and their growths as well as the themes of family, love, belonging, and sexuality.
That's why I love season 2 even more than season 1 because it explores all of the core themes of the series and does it well. It also masterfully tackles some of my favorite parts of the story, so without spoiling anything, look forward to those!
