I think it’s really hard for anyone who wasn’t aware what it was like in 1973 to kind of get what was happening. I think anyway. Women could not have their own credit cards in 1973, they only just got the ability to have their own bank accounts. Can you imagine the absolutely helpless feeling for a mother trying to talk to a bunch of men who brushed her off as stupid. That’s the slow burn. Periods of numb and bits of scarily en pointe demonic behavior. It’s not exactly a garden sprite. That was my main point. Do you think the demon wanted Regan? Why? What’s the point in demolishing a little kid? A Priest or two is way better and to do that it needed to convince them to try long enough to get worn out. In this scenario demons are evil.. not stupid Regan was bait. It may have been a partial comment on the way doctors, ESPECIALLY those in the mental health fields, thought they had had the right to dismiss anything the mum brought up as ‘ohh she’s just a woman.. what could she know’.

2025-02-12 20:06:14 +0000 UTCYou can skip Exorcist II. It’s a terrible and boring movie. Not scary at all and it’s story makes literally zero sense. Exorcist III however is a fantastic sequel that ignores the second film. The author of the book writes and directs the film so it has a very different feel but it is still very creepy, beautiful to look at and haunting.
