i realize that i'm late to the john wick watch parties, but i do have something to share that might be of interest. there is a theory circulating that the movies follow the stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance (there are other grief theories with different numbers of stages, but whatever for this discussion). this really was helpful to me after seeing 3 and before seeing 4. i was so frustrated with the pointlessness of all john's bargaining...i was about to quit the series, but it makes good sense if that is (one of) the theme(s) of the film. depression in the 4th film really hit home for me when he had to fight his way up all the stairs only to get knocked back down. it brings up a question that i guess each person can interpret their own way: did john dying at the end signal his acceptance and moving on? meaning were depression and acceptance represented together in the 4th film, or will there be a 5th film with john as a main character whose theme is acceptance. i can see it going either way.
